Chapter 8
"Katie. Katie sweetie, look at me. What's wrong?" I avoided Logan's eyes as he stared me down after school in the hallways. First of all, he sounded like my mother. Secondly.. he was hiding something. I did not want to choose Nate over my boyfriend right now, but I felt like Nate was being more honest than he was. I took a deep breath, and wiped off the suspicion on my face before looking up and meeting his eyes.
"Nothing Logan," I smiled sweetly, "Can we go home now?" Logan narrowed is eyes before bending down and gave me a peck on the cheek. If he was suspicious of my lie, he didn't show it.
"Okay, let's go." He grabbed my hand and entwined our fingers. Without a word, I followed behind him as he led me through the large crowd outside the school. Redmont High has a pretty diverse population, and some of them were very rude.
"Watch where you're going bitch!" Someone yelled at me when I accidentally bumped into them. I murmured an apology and quickly walked to keep up with Logan. Suddenly I felt his hand tense as he stopped walking.
"Logan wait, stop." He had let go of my hand and turned around.
"Wait here." He began walking towards the person who yelled at me. He gently pushed some people out of the way until he came face to face with the rude person. He had dark brown hair, some of which covered his face. He was wearing a completely black attire, and looked rather muscular. I gulped. He was also pretty tall, but not as tall as Logan. I watched as Logan approached him with a grimace. The rude guy had the same expression on his face.
"Chris?" Logan asked. All of a sudden both their eyes lit up and they did the usual "bro" greeting. I stood frozen as I watched the two of them. I guess they were... friends? I mumbled "sorry" as I bumped into a few more people trying to get over to the two people who were apparently friends.
"Um.. Logan?" I asked as I tugged on his shirt. Honestly I felt like a five year old asking their dad for a brand new toy or something, but the result was the same. I got Logan's attention. He turned to me and I was surprised to see a smile on his face.
"Hey sweetie, this is my friend Chris. He's a junior here." He said as he wrapped a loose arm around my shoulders. I looked over at Chris and gave a slight nod. He gave me a similar nod, and was still smiling from his encounter with Logan. Why were they both smiling? Was there something funny I didn't know about? We stood there in silence for a couple more seconds. My gosh was this awkward.
So, I decided to speak up. "It was really nice meeting you Chris, even after you insulted me, but Logan can we go now? I'm really tired." I noticed Chris cough awkwardly when I mentioned him calling me a bitch.
"Yah, about that. I'm sorry, I didn't know you were with Logan. Or else I never would've-"
My anger quickly flared. "So it's all about Logan isn't it? Why can't you just not be such a freaking rude asshole to everyone!" I angrily stomped my foot. "Come on Logan, let's go." I stormed off to the parking lot. Obviously, I was not in a good mood.
From a distance I heard Logan saying goodbye and him jogging toward me. I thought he was going to run up beside me, but instead he came right behind me and secured his arms around me. "I should teach you to have manners." He chuckled.
I rolled my eyes and brought my hands up to try to break his hold. "He was rude to me first!" I yelled.
"Now you're acting like a first grader."
"So are you telling me you're taking his side? I mean, if he wasn't you're friend, what were you going to do to him? "
He hesitated before answering, "Of course I choose you!" He pecked me on the cheek. "And if he wasn't my friend... I would have asked him to apologize."
