Chapter 4

Running his hand through his gelled-up hair, he sat down across from where I left my textbooks on the bench. "Ready to start?"

I silently gulped and nodded. For the next 30 minutes, he tutored me in chemistry, and I have to say, if I wasn't busy looking at him, he would be a pretty good teacher.

After about my fifth try on a homework problem, I put down my pencil and looked up expectantly at him.

"Good job! I think you're starting to get this!" He smiled at me. Nervously, I smiled back.

All of a sudden my phone rang, blaring out the song I covered last night "You Might Be the One." I knew Kristie must've been calling, because I set that song only for her.

"Hey Kristie!" I said as I picked up.

"Where are you? Do you want to hang out today?" She asked.

I smiled apologetically at Nate, who was staring at me with curious eyes, and replied, "Sorry I'm kind of busy today. Maybe tomorrow?"

"Yah sure. Well have fun with whatever you're doing right now. Text me later, okay?"

"Gotcha. Bye!" I hung up the phone and looked at Nate as he was now looking down at his own phone.

"Sorry about that. Kristie called," I explained.

He smirked "Yeah, I guessed as much," he paused before adding, "hey isn't that the song you posted on Facebook?"

My heart fluttered as I was half-hoping he had noticed. "Yup." Was all I could say. He nodded but didn't say anything else. I held my breath as I waited for him to say something.

Watching him check his phone once more, I was disappointed when he apologized.

"Sorry, I have to be somewhere right now. I'll make up our study session some other time. See you at school!" He got up from the bench and walked briskly away.

I just sat there, a little bit hurt. I understood that he probably had something much better to do than tutor me, but really? Why did he have to leave so fast? Gah. My issues of thinking too much. By the time I turned to look in his direction again, his brilliant eyes and gorgeous body was already out of sight.

I stayed at the park for another hour, trying to figure this homework out on my own.

When I finally couldn't take it anymore, I shoved everything back into my tote bag and got up to leave.

As I peered over the other side of the bench where Nate was sitting earlier, I saw a scrap of paper. I didn't want to intrude on his privacy, but I was feeling really curious. In a hurry, I reached over, picked it up, and stuffed it into my pocket. Satisfied that no on saw me, I started to walk back home.

Honestly, I don't even know why I was so secretive about getting the paper. Everything involving Nate just confuses me.

Taking the piece of paper out on my walk home, I noticed that it was a piece of folded light blue copy paper. Taking a closer look, I saw the words on it were written in black sharpie.

Slowly, I opened it up an turned it right-side-up. I blinked a couple of times, as I couldn't believe what was written.

It read:

Meet Her at Park- 1:20 PM

English Video Project- Newscaster. Ask Maddie to bring stuff.

Oh. My. Goodness. "Her"???? Am I this "her" he's referring to??? I think I might just faint right now. I stopped in my tracks.
