Henry places a freshly cooked breakfast down in front of me and my mouth waters.
"Thank you" I say, tucking in. "You're a really good cook, Hen."
"Why thank you, Sweetheart." He says, grinning at me, before tucking into his breakfast.
"What have you got planned for today?" I ask, looking up at him.
"I've got three meetings then Oliver and I have to train the warriors at five o'clock. He's going to stay in the packhouse for now." He says, and I nod.
"I just don't get the sudden change. He was really sweet yesterday."
"I don't understand either. He may have fucked around but I never would've imagined that he would pull something like this on his mate."
"Do you think something could've happened? Ares said that he wasn't in control." I say, setting my cutlery down. I bite my lip and look over at him. "I saw something. The woman, I saw what she was thinking in her head. She was working with a witch. Maybe that had something to do with it?"
"I don't know, Sweetheart. What exactly did you see?" He asks, his brow furrowing.
"She had a witch change her appearance." I answer.
He hums. "It's a possibility that she could've used something. Did you see anything else?"
I shake my head. "No, that's all I saw. She attacked me after that. I was also too shocked that I just saw into her mind."
He chuckled. "I'm guessing it's another gift from your parents?"
"Yeah. I'm still trying to wrap my head around things. A lot has changed in such a short time, I'm struggling to keep my head straight. Can I call my family tonight? I think speaking to them would help ground me a little."
"Of course, Sweetheart. You don't have to ask. You're free to do as you please." He says, and it warms my heart a little.
"My friend Lindsay is going to kill me for not speaking to her for so long."
He chuckles. "Does this Lindsay happen to be Lindsay Lunarheart?" He asks, raising his brow.
It was my turn for my brow to furrow. "Yes, why?" I ask.
"She's here. She's mated to our Gamma, Caleb. He found her while Oliver visited your pack." He says and my eyes go wide. I stand up abruptly.
"Are you fucking kidding me?" I shout. "She's been here the entire fucking time! How could you not tell me!"
"Hey, calm down, Sweetheart." He says, standing up. He rounds the table and engulfs me in a hug. All anger dissipates at his touch, and I feel the storm brewing inside fizzle out. I have such a love-hate relationship with the hold this man has on me. "I'm sorry. We didn't know. They've been holed up in their house since they got here... I'm sure you can imagine why." He says.
I let out a small chuckle. "If last night was anything to go by, I completely understand."
"I know it's a lot to take in. We're holding off our parents until you're more settled in. A lot has changed for you in such a short period of time. I can try and pry Caleb away from Lindsay so you can spend some time with her, if you want?" He asks.
"Could you? I'd like to see her tomorrow. I need to finish unpacking my things, I don't think I'll be able to cope if my things are in boxes for much longer."
"Yeah, of course. Also, if your room isn't to your taste, you're free to redecorate as you see fit, just let us know and we'll be at your disposal to help."
"Thank you."
"You don't have to thank me, Sweetheart. I just want to see you happy." He says, planting a soft kiss on my head. I blush at the gesture and smile up at him. He pulls away and rounds the table to retake his seat.
