Theo lays down on the bed, with me still attached to him like a koala. We stay like that for a couple of minutes, our close proximity calming our wolves.

"How did your meeting go?" I ask, moving my face from his neck to study his face.

"It went as well as it could have gone." He tucks a loose strand of hair behind my ear. "Tensions have been rising between the Nightshade Pack and the Crescent Moon Pack for a while. There's a lot of history between the packs. We knew that things wouldn't calm down after we first intervened, but after this meeting things seemed to have calmed down for now." He says, his eyes meeting mine. "It's something we'll need to keep a close eye on in the future."

I frown. "What's been going on?" I ask. I've never been involved in pack politics, I knew my old pack had allies, and who they were, and our enemies, but I never really got to explore any further than that.

"The packs are neighbours and haven't had the best history, but they made a peace treaty some thirty years ago. At the treaty renewal, the former Alpha of the Crescent Moon Pack, James, found his mate. Fast forward to a couple of years ago, he killed her and their four pups. She was the only daughter of the Alpha of the Nightshade pack. James is a right piece of shit. Alpha Benjamin has been threatening to wage war on the Crescent Moon Pack ever since."

"Why'd he kill her?"

"They had three pups, all girls, and she was heavily pregnant with their fourth. He went apeshit when he found out the fourth one was a girl. He wanted a boy to continue the Alpha title, because the misogynistic bastard thinks girls are weak. He killed them all, and tried to take another as his Luna, the pack rejected her, especially after she fell pregnant and when word got back to Alpha Benjamin, he was understandably furious. We stepped in just before things kicked off and stripped James of his title. He's currently waiting in the dungeon for his sentence to be carried out. The then Beta, Gabriel was appointed Alpha, and tensions just hadn't fizzled out."

"Fuck that's mental. How could someone kill their mate? You're supposed to love and cherish them. They're a fucking gift." I know that's a little rich coming from me, but I didn't think about killing them, I just didn't want to end up like my father. I know I was wrong, and I'm kind of glad that things turned out the way that they did. I don't think I could live without them. I know I'm going to have to forgive Oliver and try and work through things, but I just need space away from him while my emotions settle down.

"I know, Darling. Some people can be cruel. There's no reason or rhyme for it, it just happens and that's not a person you want in power."

I nod. "I completely agree. How often do things like that happen?" I ask.

"Too often." He replies, hugging me to him tighter. "But they're thankfully not as common as they used to be. It's something Henry, Oliver and I are hoping to eradicate while we're in power. We want to change the way some packs treat their females." He says.

"I've heard some packs treat their female members like absolute shit."

He nods. "Some of them do. There are a couple of packs way up north, ones that are completely cut off from anyone else like it, but we're working on it."

After a couple of moments  of silence, I speak up. "Come on, I want to get to know my mate." I say, pulling away from him. I sit back on the bed, across from him and look at him with a cheeky grin.

"I'm an open book, Darling." He says, returning my grin with his own.

"Shall we play 21 questions?" I suggest.

"Sure why not."

"Okay, what's your favourite colour?" I ask.

"Dark blue. What's your favourite food?"
