Part 4: Truth

For the first time in months, the rescue team ran at full power again. But that didn't mean all of their problems were solved.

Agnus drove out of his room, yawning tiredly. He had only woken up a few minutes ago and was slightly surprised to see Poli talking to the others in the HQ. Poli's gaze flickered over to him and he moved away, giving a slight glare.

"Actually, I'm going to go out on patrol." Poli said, retreating into his room quickly. Amber shot him a sympathetic glance and he looked away.

Jin turned to Helly. "Oh yeah, thanks for getting Poli to come back to the job. I tried talking to him the other day but nothing I said got through." She looked a little curious. "What did you say? Did you use some kind of trickery? Blackmail? Witchcraft?"

Helly looked perplexed for a few moments. "No? I just talked to him for a few minutes, it really wasn't anything special-" he paused when he saw Jin eyeing him suspiciously. "You sure?" "Yes?"

Jin then shrugged. "Fair enough." She turned to Agnus. "Did you get a good idea of what the town looked like while you were out yesterday?"

Anxiety tightened in his chest as he thought about what happened. "Yeah, but a lot of the townspeople seemed rather confused or upset. I told them I was the new firefighter and some of them got a bit upset. Didn't you tell them or something?"

"Oh..." Jin instantly paused. "I forgot about that..." She then scratched the side of her head. "Uh, well, we haven't exactly told them about what happened to Roy yet..." She said subconsciously.

Roy? Agnus thought to himself. Was he the one from that photo? He must have looked confused because Jin jumped into an explanation of what happened, looking a bit upset as she explained it.

Now it all made sense. Poli and the townsfolk being upset, the photo, Helly commenting his looks...Now he felt bad. He did sort of just intrude his way into their lives. Especially since it was so recent. He could not truly understand Poli's anger instead of just feeling sorry for himself.

"Perhaps we should all head out for patrol." Amber suggested, breaking the thick silence that hung between them all. She turned to Agnus. "You know your routes right?"

He nodded. "Yeah I think so. I memorized them yesterday."

"Good. Then I'll be heading out, see you guys." Amber said, turning around and heading back through her door.

Helly did the same, flying off.

"I guess I should go too, bye Jin." Jin just waved and spun back around in her chair, occupied on something else.

After a few minutes of driving, Angus came across Poli. He saw him talking to some townsfolk. He didn't know their names but he recognized them from yesterday.

"Yeah, who's that other firetruck that was going around the other day?" A blue mail car asked. There was a lighter blue truck with a lift on his back, as well as some kind of green vehicle with small arms.

Poli looked rather uncomfortable for a few moments, as though he didn't want to explain. "That's Agnus." He finally said after a few moments. "He's the new firefighter that's going to be working here."

"But what about Roy? What happened to him?" The lighter blue tow truck asked, looking confused.

"Uh.." Poli then caught eye of Agnus. "Oh actually, speaking of, there's him now. I bet he can explain it for you guys." He dodged the question swiftly, driving off while they turned to look.

He nervously drove up to them, keeping a distance. "Er, hi guys." he gave a small smile. "Good to see you again." Not really. He thought, biting his tongue.

"Are you Agnus?" The green one asked, looking friendly. He nodded.

Spooky charged forward, stopping directly in front of him, causing him to flinch. "What happened to Roy? Explain!" He demanded, stomping his tire.

"Uh, I only just heard about it this morning...do you really wanna know?" He asked, dearly hoping they would say no.

"Yes!" Both of the blue cars said in unison, the green care looking on wearily at them.

He was quiet for a few moments. "I'm sorry to be the one to break it to you but..."

"Watch out!" A voice called, causing Agnus to snap around. A big blue truck came speeding down the slope. "I can't stop!" A yellow bulldozer was racing down behind him. "Dump!" he called frantically. "Help!"

Naturally, Agnus quickly transformed and ran in front of the truck with his arms out. The truck crashed into him but he held on, forcing his feet onto the ground in an attempt to get him to stop. After a few moments of them sliding back, they came to a hold.

They all sighed with relief just sitting there for a few moments. The blue truck looked up. "Thank you so much! You really helped me out there." Agnus nodded, his feet and arms hurt a bit but it was really nothing.

"I'm going to call and get Amber over here to check you, okay?" He assured the truck. "Thank you." Agnus got out his transmitter, calling Amber.

"What's up Agnus?" She asked.

"Do you think you could head over? This truck.." He looked towards the truck quickly. "Dump." Dump responded coolly, giving a small smile. "--Dump, had a minor incident. Can you help?"

"I'm on my way now!"

Agnus put his transmitter away with a sigh. "I haven't seen you around here before." The yellow bulldozer commented, stopping beside Dump. "Oh yeah, I just started working here a few days ago actually."

"What happened to Roy?"

This question again? Every inch of pride he had from helping Dump seeped out of his body and he was left standing there like an idiot. "Um...you see..." He took a deep breath in. "I'll tell you but you won't like it." The group of cars exchanged glances with one another before nodding slowly.

He decided to just say it.

"He's dead."



"What?!" Some yelled out in surprise while others just looked on with surprised faces. This conversation was going to be fun....

Yeaaah the townspeople gonna freak about this.

Just some basic info on him:

He's 27

Has anxiety

He doesn't know it but he's actually pretty strong-

Has two sisters but lives only with his dad as their parents are divorced

He's a bit of a nerd

His dad owned a lot of cats so he's generally a cat person. But he does love all animals

Very introverted but does try to make new friends

he loves to paint
