Cold Winter //Roy x Amber AU

Okay, im starting to like this ship.....request! It's multishipper time!

It had been a short summer and now winter was beginning to kick in again. The air had significantly cooled and some days, small flurries would drift from the thick clouds above. The rescue team knew that this winter was going to be a long one, accidents, freezing temperatures, shoveling all of the snow from the roads, etc.

Although, Helly was looking forward to the change.

"Wow! Guys look! It's snowing!" He called from a window, pointing out at the white flurries that drifted from the sky. 

Jin sipped her coffee, blinking her eyes to adjust to the bright outside. "Oh yeah. Great." She spoke half-heartedly, causing Helly to shook her a quick glare before staring back out again.

"Ooh! I can't wait for the snow to cover all of the ground so I can make snowmen and igloos and snowballs-! It's going to be so much fun!" Helly clasped his hands together excitedly as Amber drove into the room.

Amber smiled at the helicopter's excitement. "Really? I can help you make a snow for this year if you want, since we didn't get to do it last year."

Helly just nodded, only half listening. "I'm going outside!" He called before he flew up and left the rescue station.

Jin turned to Amber. "So, you about to go on patrol?" She asked, taking another gulp of her drink.

"Yes, I was going to check up on the town one last time before taking a long break." 

Jin simply nodded. "Off you go then, see you Amber."

"Bye Jin."

As Amber drove across the town, she couldn't help but notice how the snow began to fall harder and piles of it began to form on the sides of the road. Thick layers of sleet, broken by tire marks that burred through them, lay upon the road as well.

"Amber!" A familiar voice called, causing her to snap from her observations.

"Roy!" She called back, feeling pleasantly surprised to see her friend. "What are you doing out here?" She stopped in front of him and they stared at one another for a few moments.

Roy shook himself before answering. "Oh, I was just checking on the town and saw you so I thought I'd might as well say hello." He flashed a smile at her.

Amber nodded. "Right. Want to patrol together for a little bit?"

Roy's response was quick this time. "Sure!"

They both patrolled together for a while, talking between one another. Then, Amber stopped. "Hey Roy, come here!" She giggled, transforming and running into an area where the snow had deepened.

Roy stared after her in surprise before transforming himself and running over. "Wha-" He was quickly interrupted by a snowball crashing into his face. He stood, probably looking like a deer in headlights, for a few moments before shaking the snow off his face.

He could hear Amber break out into laughter. "Roy! You were totally not expecting that!" She laughed, stopping at his side. 

Roy didn't reply, simply grunting playfully before pushing her away.

"I'm sorry, you're face though." Amber said, rubbing the side of her face with a large smile. "Here, come on, I promise no more surprises."

"Okay." Roy sighed, following beside her as she lead him into a deep, snowy forest. Most of the trees lacked leaves now, but a few still clutched onto their branches. "Wow," Roy commented. "I haven't seen the forest all covered in snow and all for a while now. It's kind of pretty."

Amber nodded. "Yeah! I love winter. Not necessarily because of the cold, but I like the snow and the way everything looks after a fresh blanket of snow falls on top of it."

Roy felt a soft glow in his chest and he knew she was right. Due to his chatting with Amber and gazing of the forest, it took Roy a bit to realize how cold his hands were. Now that he paid attention, they sort of hurt.

In a quick attempt to fix the situation, he blew on his hands, rubbing them together quickly. Amber caught on quickly as well. 

"Are you cold?" Amber asked, suddenly looking rather attentive to Roy.

Roy shrugged with a short smile. "I mean, kind of, yeah."

Amber didn't say anything for a few moments before reaching out and grabbing his hands, clutching them together in her own. They had stopped walking now. "Oh, they are cold. This should help."

Roy immediately felt heat rush across his face. Her hands were indeed warm but something about the thought of their hands touching, set everything off in his mind. He wasn't quite sure if it was in a bad way or perhaps a good one.

Amber's hands rubbed around his own for about a minute before she let go. "Any better? We should probably get heading back then if your hands get cold so fast." When Roy didn't respond she looked up. He was facing away from her but she could see the look on his face.

"Oh." She giggled nervously, blushing a bit herself. "I-I suppose I should have asked first. My apologies.."

Roy looked back over at her. "Uh, no it's fine! It helped anyway." He rubbed the side of his face, still partially freaking out.

Amber seemed to have moved on after a second though. "Okay! Just to make sure you don't get sick or anything, lets head back now!" She smiled and offered her hand, blushing a bit.

'Fuck' was the only word the repeated in his mind when she did so. Naturally he grabbed her hand, but in all honesty, he wasn't entirely sure what to do at this point. His mind was already racing at a million miles per hour and this only added to it.

They started walking back. At first it was just a silence between them, until, somehow, he found himself chasing Amber back home in a heated game of tag. One they had both reached the rescue center, they were completely out of breath.

Instead of heading back to his room, Roy staggered onto a nearby couch, flopping down to take a breath. Amber sat down too, and for a moment they just stared at one another intently before suddenly breaking into a fit of laughter.

Even though the winter was cold, it had seemed to have brought him some warm memories that he wouldn't be forgetting soon.
