Soo this gives a little bit of insight on Roy's background. I've been also wanting to write this for a long while now

But honestly, this chapter was a little hard for me to write...I felt so bad for Roy <:[

Roy grabbed out his phone, opening up his contacts. He scrolled a short bit before opening one up.

Ruby you good to talk rn?

.

.

He waited patiently for his sister to respond. While he waited, he rolled over onto his side, transformed. Today had been a pretty bad day, admittedly, and he just wanted to get some things off his chest.

Ruby was his non-biological sister. They had adopted her into the family when Roy was a young kid. They had always been close. Whether they were biological siblings or not, they loved and cared about each other. Fiercely protecting one another.

Bing..!

Ofc, you alright bro?

.

.

Umm, yeah. Can we call for a bit??

.

.

Sure, hold on, I need to finish getting ready for bed, I call you in a minute.

.

.

Alr.

Roy sighed to himself, waiting again.

He had a rather small family. His mother was a stay-at-home mom and his father constantly moved from one place to another; He was never really home. Roy did have a younger brother, Carson, but he was busy with his work now and didn't really hang out with any of them anymore. Ruby on the other hand, was very close with him and they often chatted when upset, really excited about something, etc.

Just then, his phone buzzed and he picked it up.

[A few minutes of them chatting later..]

"Heh, yeah, I like being a firefighter and all but..." He trailed off, but kept the smile on his face.

Ruby smiled back before saying: "Ha, well I'm about to hop off so is it alright if I tell you one thing real fast?" Her smile faded a bit.

Roy paused. "Sure, go for it."

Then, Ruby went silent for a few moments, indicating that the topic was changing to something more serious. She always kept these things to herself until the very end, although Roy really never did have a clear idea why she did this. "Okay, so...um.." She began to speak, her voice shaking as she carefully picked out her words.

"I was, er, visiting the doctor the other day for my normal check up and all and...and..." she paused again and Roy could hear her shaky inhale. "...They said that I was...er...really sick. They put me onto some treatments but they said if it didn't get better in a few months then I'll...be put into the, um, hospital...I guess."

Roy felt sick to his stomach at her words. "You...you what?" he finally managed to muster, clenching his hands tightly against the wall. "But you're fine now, certainly you'll get better. Like this isn't that serious...right?" He sounded as though trying to convince himself of the words.
