Cece's POV
As Eve left for school, I returned to our room, intending to catch up on important emails. My laptop screen flickered to life just as my husband, Sam, entered the room.
Sam: "Cece, please be ready. We'll be leaving for the hospital in 20 minutes. Okay?"
I glanced up, distracted by my digital tasks, and replied dismissively.
Me: "No, Sam. We already know the pregnancy test came back positive. Just give me the tablets. I'll take care of it, I promise."
Sam leaned in and pecked my forehead, his concern evident.
Sam: "Cece, we need a general check-up and confirmatory tests. Please listen to me and get up."
Frustrated, I resisted, insisting on avoiding a trip to the hospital.
Me: "Sam, please!"
Sam's patience wore thin, and he sighed in exasperation.
Sam: "Okay, leave it. I should've known you won't be cooperative."
He shot me a disapproving look, expressing his disappointment but seeming to relent at the same time.
Me: "At least I won't have to visit the hospital, yay!"
Sam, shaking his head: "Cece, you can't avoid necessary check-ups. It's for your health and the baby's."
Our conversation unfolded in a mix of annoyance and concern.
I remained seated, half-expecting a lecture from Sam. To my surprise, he emerged from our room after getting ready, pecked my head, and offered clear instructions.
Sam: "Eat only homemade food. I'll be back in 2 hours. Okay, baby?"
His stern demeanor held an air of authority that strangely appealed to me.
Me, with a teasing smile: "Yes, Doctor. I got it. Thanks for sparing me from the hospital schedule."
Sam's expression softened into a smile, appreciating my acknowledgment.
Sam: "Take care, Cece. I'll see you in a bit."
With that, he left for the hospital, leaving me to my own devices. As I contemplated his caring yet assertive attitude, I couldn't help but appreciate the delicate balance of our relationship—built on love, understanding, and the occasional playful banter.
I was in a daze when I felt a gentle jerk, and my eyes fluttered open. Sam stood beside me, waking me up softly.
Sam: "Look who came to see you."
Confused, I focused my gaze and spotted James, Sam's best friend, standing nearby.
Me: "James? Really? Ahh, so I am getting the check-up."
He nodded "and for the next 9 months, I will be your gynec. So, I really expect you to obey my orders."
My eyes widened at the unexpected revelation, and I couldn't help but laugh.
Me, playfully: "Alright, Doctor James. What are your orders then?"
James, with mock seriousness: "As of now, let me check your general well-being."
As he began the examination, the room filled with light banter and camaraderie.
Me, teasingly: "James, be gentle. I'm a delicate patient, you know."
James, playing along: "Oh, of course. Delicate, but not exempt from following my orders."
The atmosphere was light-hearted, a perfect blend of friendship and professional care.
