I woke up before Cece, the soft sunlight filtering through the curtains. Quietly, I checked on her, sleeping peacefully. Deciding to let her rest a bit longer, I freshened up and headed downstairs, where Ed awaited.
"Good morning, Sam," Ed greeted, his tone somewhat grim.
"Morning. Where's Evan?" I inquired, knowing my brother's notorious morning habits.
"Nope, that boy has a tendency to get on our nerves before waking up," Ed chuckled.
I sighed, "Let me wake him up."
"No, Sam, sit here and have your coffee. I will take care of it," Ed insisted, gesturing for me to stay put.
Rolling my eyes, I settled into a chair as Ed headed upstairs. Moments later, I overheard the exchange between Ed and Evan.
"Come on, Evan. You can't sleep all day," Ed's voice echoed.
"But it's so comfy," Evan protested, his groggy voice permeating the air.
"You've school. Come on. Now get up," Ed commanded.
"I hate mornings," Evan mumbled.
"Tell me about it," Ed muttered in response.
I couldn't help but smirk, appreciating Ed's capabilities. Cece descended the stairs, rubbing her eyes, and joined me at the table.
"What's happening?" she asked.
"Ed's handling the Evan wake-up drama," I explained, sipping my coffee my gaze fixed on the escalating situation upstairs.
Ed's patience wore thin, his voice now tinged with frustration. "Don't push me harder, Evan. No more 5 minutes. Get up, come on."
"Yeah, yeah," Evan groaned, his reluctance apparent.
"One more time, and you'll be over my knee. We discussed the rules yesterday," Ed warned, his tone stern.
"I am up, I am up," Evan mumbled, attempting to pacify Ed.
Unconvinced, Ed threw a smack, and a yelp echoed through the house."Owww, I'm up!" Evan exclaimed, the sudden jolt pulling him out of his drowsiness.
Soon, Ed returned, a triumphant grin on his face. "Mission accomplished. He's up."
Cece chuckled, "You're a hero, Ed."
"Someone has to do it," Ed shrugged, settling into a chair. The morning banter continued, filled with laughter and the comforting routine of our family dynamics.
"You feeling good, Cece?" Ed inquired.
"Yeah, I'm good," Cece replied.
"I'll take her to the hospital today. Hopefully, the reports will come out well," I stated in a serious tone.
"What hospital? I'm not going with you!" Cece exclaimed.I looked at her, stunned. "These girls! Somehow manage to get on my nerves."
"Cece, we discussed this, right?" I reminded her.
"So? I told you I will do as much as I can," Cece retorted.
"No, Cece, as we planned. We're going to do EVERYTHING to keep you and the baby healthy. And I'm not interested in any kind of irresponsibility when it comes to this," I said sternly.
Cece was about to say something, but I stopped her, not ready to listen to her and compromise on her health.
"Ed, please tell your brother I can't..." Cece said.
