Chapter 16

Skye's PO V

I weaved through the humans in the busy but narrow streets. "Excuse me...sorry...pardon me..."
My heels clicked against the cobblestone bellow; finally I reached the opening I was searching for. I was now pushing people out of my way causing some to stumble into stands or each other. "Hey!" A stall owner called, I simply ignored him.
I reached the opening but kept running up the narrow street, the sun was beginning to set which told me to run faster. The streets seemed darker, this was caused by the dark shadows of the tall houses at either side which seemed as if they were only a single building.
I finally gave up, I knew I wouldn't be able to get there before sun down. I walked but my legs ached from all that running.

The sun had finally set and the air around was a lot colder than before. The only sound was from my heels against the cobblestone and distant howling from wolves from the dark forest far away. Every once in a while there was a little flicker of light from a candle in a house. As I walked up the slightly steep street, I felt as i someone was watching me from behind. I began to pick up my pace and I felt cold run through my body when someone placed a firm hand on my shoulder. I attempted to shake the hand off but it was firmly planted on my shoulders, nails digging into my skin. "You smell nice..." A deep voice said from behind.

"Leave me alone..." I said shakily, my head under the warmth of the hood of my cloak.

The man forcefully pulled me around to face him. He was quite tall, and had jet black hair. The man wore a beige trench coat with the belt wrapped tightly around his waist. I looked up at his face, he had a menacing grin and his eyes were full of pure, blood lusting evil. "Why would I? I'm hungry."

"Let me go and you won't get hurt." I gripped the handle of the weapon hidden under my white cloak, preparing if he attacked.

The man chuckled, it was deep and scratchy. The chuckle turned into a laugh which turned into a cackle. The cackle then turned into an unearthly screech as he lunged at me. I immediately pulled out the weapon that was hiding under my cloak. The grip was engraved with beautiful patterns in gold and the name "Athena" was engraved in the middle of the shining gold patterns. The blade was pure platinum and was as thin as paper, it glistened because of the light reflecting on it from the moon. My cloak hood had come off my head and my dark brown hair which came just past my shoulders were now visible. My eyes did not match my hair colour, however, they were a light blue.

The man stepped backward with wide eyes and for a moment I thought he was going to run away, but he didn't. Instead the man grinned, laughing at my bravery. "You foolish human, do you think you can out smart me?"

I could see the man was a level E, all his hope was finally lost...as was his battle to stay sane. Even so, I could see the smallest hint of terror in his eyes telling me this wasn't him. I felt sorry for him, he never chose this life but I knew what I had to do. At least this way his struggle in his heart will finally end and he can finally rest in peace.

I swung the sword with all my power, it sliced smoothly through his neck. The crazed man's body fell lifelessly to the ground with a slump then, disintegrated into a pile of dust, the same for his decapitated head, his final facial expression still freakishly grinning. I sighed at the two separate dust pile and felt a single tear escape from my left eye which blurred my vision. "Rest in Peace..." I whispered as the wind carried it away.

I put my hood back over my head, making sure my hair was tucked in neatly before doing so. I then turned back to my original path and began to walk quickly, gripping my cloak from the inside. "I am no human," I mumbled as if the man was still present. "I am a vampire. I am a pureblood."

I finally arrived at the massive building, I stood at the archway. "I sense her presence, I can now confirm she's here."
