AUTHOR’S POV
The ceremony of haldi came to a halt. It was already midnight as everyone departed to their rooms, sleeping soundly after a day of tiredness and excitement.
But there was a certain person who couldn’t sleep.
Aridhi.
Rolling on her bed here and there, she couldn’t stop herself from thinking about Ruvit. She was blushing, giggling and what not at the memories of them.
But suddenly something struck her, her mind swirling elsewhere, the thought about herself, becoming Ruvit’s business partner.
“Is it okay to be his business partner?” She mumbled to herself, the question hung between her and the quiet room.
“I mean..” She thought a little further. “I will reveal my identity as the Business Queen when I become capable of surpassing the Business King aka Ruvit.”
A frown formed on her face. “And now that I am his business partner, it kind of feels like cheating. I will get to know a lot about him professionally, his upcoming projects, his tactics and all that stuff.”
She sighed, shaking her head against the bedsheet. “Ugh, maybe I am just overthinking. It’s just a partnership.”
Just then, another realisation dawned upon her. “I ordered a water bottle but it isn’t here yet.” She admitted out of frustration, glancing at the empty kettle beside her bed.
So, she decided to get the water bottle by herself. Determined, in her cotton nightwear: a set of tshirt and shorts, she walked through the corridors.
But suddenly she paused, terror bubbling in her veins as a faint sound of approaching footsteps reached her ears.
“Who is there?” A chill ran down her spine, making her tremble. She looked here and there frantically, clutching the hem of her shorts in anticipation.
Suddenly, the footsteps became more prominent, more audible, making her heartbeat race more loudly.
And as if the situation wasn’t worse enough, electricity went off. All the lights around her flickered before dying completely. Darkness surrounded her.
Aridhi froze, her entire body almost giving up, when she heard the sound of a thunderstorm, followed by relentless rain.
Then she huffed, hard and audible, as a shadow on the wall caught her eyes. She was about to scream but instinctively put her hand on her mouth.
“I am not scared of darkness but this rainy weather is haunting me.” She mumbled, trying to calm her nerves. But then she realised that she had forgotten the way to her room.
Before rain could trigger her trauma, she started to look for her room, or at this point an empty room would work too. So, she tried again and again, reaching for the door knobs, hoping for any one to be open.
But they all were closed.
“Please..” Her voice was desperate. “Let this be open.” She prayed and as if on cue and to her luck, that door was open.
