“Tum prem ho, tum preet ho, meri dhadkano ka geet ho. Tum prem ho, tum preet ho, manmeet ho Kanha, mere manmeet ho.”
As soon as I stepped inside the Imagery High School of Mumbai, a beautiful voice, rich and resonant, welcomed me.
It was an ethereal sound, completely unexpected and rare.
For a solid minute, I was utterly paralyzed, rooted to the spot.
Her voice...it was mesmerizing, a pure and unadulterated enchantment.
“Tum prem ho, tum preet ho, manmeet ho Kanha, mere manmeet ho.”
I had never heard such a captivating voice. Ever. So sweet. So controlled.
As a guy, I never had opinions on girls because we were no one to tell the reincarnation of mahalakshmi about anything.
Generally, I felt nothing towards anyone, romantically at least. But now, a girl’s voice, her voice, was taking complete control over me.
It wasn’t just pleasing; it was soothing as if it was meant for my restless soul.
“Tum prem ho, tum preet ho, meri dhadkano ka geet ho.”
My father had been invited as the Chief Guest to this school, and he had forced me to come along.
I’d been regretting it, every second of the journey, but now, an endearing realization hit me—it was worth it.
Every single complaint, every moment of annoyance, dissolved into insignificance.
Because I found someone more significant.
“Tum ho jahan, me hu vahan, Kanha...”
I was already fifteen, on the cusp of entering tenth grade, and yet, I had never felt an attraction like this, not once in my life.
And especially not to a girl’s voice.
My eyes were desperate to meet the owner of this voice.
A feeling I’d never experienced before surged through my heart. It was beating so fast, a frantic drum against my ribs.
It never happened before. I never experienced such body reactions—even my soul was aching to be with her.
“Tum ho jahan, me hu vahan, tum bin nahi hain kuch yaha. Tum ho jahan, me hu vahan, tum bin nahi hain kuch yaha.”
We made our way to the main hall, instantly making me disappointed.
