I sniff softly while patting the wetness from under my eyes, along with some blotchy leftover eyeliner.

No matter how many times I calmed myself down, the tears just came back.

It won't stop.

I look down at my marble countertop by the mirror, thankful for having my own bathroom. I didn't want my parents to know how things really were at Versailles.

"Come in." I say in a frail tone as I hear two knocks on my bedroom door, before my mother is emerging into the washroom where I stand.

I feel her run a hand down my hair. "Honey?" She says in her usual soft voice.

I sniff once again, still looking down. "Mhm?" I clear my throat as I hear the weakness.

How many hours has it been?

She continues to run her fingers through my wet tendrils of hair. "How was school?"

I look up and meet her eyes through the mirror. "School? Or detention?"

"Detention."

I was feeling lucky, if I had to be completely honest.

I look around the empty room with contentment, realizing that Morgan never had shown to detention.

Well- there's still forty five minutes until it ends, so he could just be late.

Either way, I was savouring the quiet time.

I also was told by Callahan herself that she wouldn't be supervising detention after class, but assured me that she's 'still watching'.

She could've just said there's cameras, but what's the fun in that?

I decided to use the fact that not only was she not here, but he wasn't.

I'd been drawing for the whole fifteen minutes that Morgan wasn't here for, and I loved every second of it.

I drag my pencil across the paper in a slow and steady motion, rolling my eyes as I mess up the wing again.
