Then the door opened...
Before anyone could see us we scrambled into the small closet in his room. In his journal he said there was a tunnel in his closet. We were squished together only centimeters apart. We heard the footsteps get closer to the closet. We back up in the closet stepping behind jackets and clothing of my fathers. While walking back and watching the closet doors I took another step back but instead and touching the wood in the closet It felt colder. I turned around to see a cave. Just like dad said. We quickly went inside for we heard the closet doors opening. We saw two wooden swinging doors without handles on the side facing the inside of the closet. We swung it shut. Now whoever it was would just find a regular closet with no cave and most importantly no us. There was a little light above us where we stood. We heard the person feeling the back of the closet. We stepped back praying that it wouldn't open. And thank god it didn't. We eventually heard the person leave and the door shut. We looked around.
"Should we go down?" Mike asked.
"No we have to find my father first." I said opening the wooden doors. We squished our way through the clothes and opened the closet door. We looked around the room to make sure no one was there and then we hopped out. I walked over to the door and turned the handle. It didn't budge.
"Dang it!" I yelled trying not to be too loud."it's locked!"
"Maybe that cave will lead us out." Mike suggested. We walked back in closing the closet doors and the back wooden doors as well. We found a small box next to the wooden door in the cave. It had flashlights batteries walky talkys and food. We only took the walky talkys. We took out our flashlights and began walking down the tunnel. It was dark even with the flashlights on. It felt damp and chilly. The walls were bumpy and would scratch your hand if you dragged your hand on it. We reached a point down that long tunnel where there was two ways to go. A left or a right. I pulled out my fathers journal and flipped through the pages to try to find a map of the cave but we didn't. We were gonna spilt up. We turned on our walky talkys.
"Goodbye." I said to Mike.
"This isn't bye we'll have our walky talkys. And we can meet up here again." He said with a small smile.
"I love you." I said to him as he pulled me into a hug.
"I love you too, Katie." He said kissing my forehead. We turned to our caves and started walking in. Mine was the same as before. Damp, cold, and bumpy. The only thing different is that the ceiling had long pointy rocks. I took out my walky talky and spoke into it.
"Hey, Mikey how are you doing?" There was some fuzzy sounds for a second but then I heard his voice say,
"It's ok so far."
"Have you found the way out?"
"No it's just another long cave."
"same except I have long pointy rocks on the ceiling."
"Ouch watch out then"
We stayed on the line in silence as I kept walking down the cave. It was the same long cave but one part of the wall was pitch black. I crept over to it and looked at it. It wasn't a wall, it was a opening.
"Hey I think I found something." I said excitedly into the walky talky. I listened for his voice to respond but all it was was fuzz.
" I found something, Mike." I repeated. Still nothing. "Mike!" I yelled into it. Then I heard a small voice come from his walky talky.
"Katie...help..." No doubt it was Mike.
"Hold on I'm coming!" I yelled. I ran through the cave where I came from. While running I saw that some of the spikes fell from the last time I was in there. I hope one of those didn't hit him and I hope he's ok. I kept running as fast as I could. I wasn't watching my feet and suddenly plummeted to the ground. I hit my side on a large rock that was on the floor. I looked around and saw I tripped on some sort of tree root. I got up and realized my ankle was all messed up. It was facing the right way but I must've rolled it before I fell. I fell down again hitting the ground hard. My hands and knees where all scratched up and were bleeding. I struggled to get up and leaned against the wall.
I pulled out my walky talky.
"I..I'm..coming..Mike.." I struggled to say.
I took another step and limped. I kept going trying to pick up my pace.
I was almost out of my cave. I kept limping and leaning against the wall. I tripped again and fell down.
"Owwww!" I yelled beginning to cry. I stood up biting my lip and gave all my strength to run out of my cave. I finally reached the end and kneeled down on the ground holding my hand out to support me. I looked at my ankle and say it was getting swollen. I stood up and walked into his cave.
"Mike!" I yelled. I limped forwards looking for him. I went deeper in his cave. His cave was much worse. Pointy rocks and boulders lied everywhere. There was a wall that I had to climb. I grabbed edges of the wall and rock climbed. I reached my hand up to a edge when it suddenly broke off and I came falling to the ground. My head hit the ground and heard Mike yell my name before everything went black.
