If I Could Run

Chapter 16

Mike's POV:
I woke up on a white surface. The area around me was obviously a lab. I looked at my arms and legs which were strapped down to the table. My arms could reach just enough to touch my head. All I could remember was we were in the cave. I went down my side and then that guy found me when I reached that metal door. There was red/orange light shining from the cracks of the door. That man attacked me while speaking into a device on his jacket saying he needed help. He had me pinned against a wall. He injected something into my arm, it hurt so I yelled in pain. I saw Katie come limping into the cave and start climbing. I heard her fall and yelled for her before I passed out. And now I'm here. In some sort of lab for some reason. No one was in my room. I looked over at sound asleep Katie in the room next to me. I looked around more. I needed to get us out of here and out of the volcano back home where she'd be safe. I look to the counter in front of me, there was a needle over there. Maybe I could use it to cut the strap and get out. But how would I get Katie out? She was chained down. I guess I'd just look for something once I'd gotten out of this. It was impossible to reach the counter. I look beside me and see a glass of water. I got it! I know how to get it. I reached the glass barely touching it. I pulled it to me as the water in it spilled out everywhere. I used my hand to splash to remaining water in front of the door. I held the glass tightly and took a deep breath. I smashed it against the bed. It was still silent. I didn't want to wait for someone to come running in so I quickly used the broken glass and cut of the straps on my hands and the feet. Once I was free I stood up and walked to the door. I tried to knob. It was open for the scientist who comes through. I opened it and stuck my head out no way could I get out this way. I watched as a African American lady and a guard talked. Suddenly a speaker went off.
"Hello this is your leader speaking, I am calling a meeting with everyone except guards. The only guards I need are, Josh, Jake, and John. Everyone else but guards come to my office...Now!" Yelled the speaker voice. The office lady shrugged.
"Well we better get down there." The lady told the guard which must've been one of the three guards he called down.
"Ya I hope my brothers are there and not flirting with the office ladies again." The guard said back.
"C'mon, John." The lady said signaling to follow as the walked down a hall and turned. There was no one there but I saw cameras down the hall.
"Dang it!" I thought.
I went back in my room and closed the door quietly. I walked back and forth. I looked at Katie through the glass wall.
"Wait...The glass wall! It can be broken!" I though excitedly. I looked around and saw a chair. It was black and has a cushion on it. I sat on it for a minute just testing.
"Stop it Mike, no time for being comfortable!" I thought smacking my head. I picked up the chair and through it at the glass. It shattered into a million shards and covered the floor. Katie jumped up and I ran into her room to her.
"Mike what's going on?!" She yelled.
"Shhh I'm getting us out of here." I whispered to her. I looked around for something to get her out. I heard some footsteps coming. I ducked in a corner right as the door opened. The scientist came in from my side running. He slipped from the water I threw there and hit his head. He stood up and looked around in shock. He saw I was gone and was about to talk into his phone to ask for help. I jumped out and tackled him. Katie watched with big eyes. The scientist pinned me down and was about to inject me again but I ducked and flipped him over. I grabbed hold of the needle and injected it into him. He passed out and lost his grip. I dug through his jacket and found a gun and bullets and took his phone as well. I walked to her bed and shot the chains on her and they broke off. I helped her up and she jumped into my arms thanking me. I took the mans lab coat and found a pair of sunglasses in a cabinet we pulled the man into a cabinet and locked it by sticking a broom through the handles. I put in the lab coat and the sunglasses. I took her hands and acted as if I was escorting her somewhere. We left the room through my sides door and we fit in because I looked like the scientist. I had no idea how to get back to her fathers room. I stopped and pulled Katie with me to the lady at the desk I saw earlier.
"The leader wants me to take her to her fathers old room. But in the lab I accidentally consumed a chemical and forgot where the room is." I lied to her. She looked me up and down curiously.
"Um ok," she said, "go up that elevator," she continued pointing to one near us,"then walk down that hall and go up the stairs and then it's the third door to the left."
"Thank you." I say starting to walk with her.
"Wait do you remember the passcode?" She asked. I shook my head. "Well I can't tell you." She said again looking suspicious at us.
"I'm sure I'll remember. "I say quickly taking her to the elevator." I see the lady press a button on her desk as we press the up button. The doors closed.
"What do you think the passcode is?" Katie said to me.
"I have no idea." He said back. We got out as walked down the hall and ran up the stairs we reached the door and there was no passcode.
"Oh my god!" Katie yelled to me, "there was no passcode! She knows we were a fake!" I heard the elevator door open downstairs as people's footsteps ran closer to us. I opened the door and we ran in. We grabbed the rope and started climbing it up. I had her climb first so I could still be seen if someone came in. Once there was room for me I jumped in the rope and started pulling myself up. She reached the lava hologram and went though it and reached the top. People ran in the room.
"Up there!" Yelled a guard.
"Shoot them!" Yelled another. A guard pulled outa. A gun and pointed up to me I used one hand and pulled pulled out my gun and fired a bullet down below. It missed the person. They fired up and it skimmed past me. I dropped the lab coat down on top of the guards blocking there view. I went through the lava hologram and was pulling myself up to the ledge. Katie was helping when we heard another gun shot.
She took my hand and we ran down the hill to the street. We jumped in the car and she took the wheel. She sped down the mountain as fast and safely as she could. We saw people run out of the volcano through the windows. We made it out.
