When the door opened I saw Mike holding something behind his back.
"Where my present?" I continue jokingly.
He stares in my eyes and held one of my hands.
"Follow me." He says. He walks away as I follow. He led me outside into his backyard. He stood in front of a fountain. The sky was dark and the stars were shining so bright it almost looked fake. I walked over and he faced me.
"Katie," he says holding my hand and staring into my eyes.
"Yes?" I ask anticipating what was about to happen.
He got down on one knee and smiled. He took out a little white box. He opens it and reveals a little ring with a white diamond in the center. The ring around it was designed. My eyes go wide.
"Katie, this is a promise ring." He says, "It's too early to propose but I already know the person I will marry, and that's you." My eyes tear up.
"I promise that I will stay by you through thick and thin and never leave your side." He says tearing up a little as well. He stands up and looks farther into my eyes. His ocean blue eyes reflected the night sky and I could see the stars in them.
"I promise that I will take good care of you and be honest about everything. I promise that I will protect and comfort both you and our future children." He continues. My eyes run with tears of joy.
"I promise to love you." He finishes.
"I promise to love you too!" I yell and I jump into his arms. I sniffle and he puts on the promise ring.
"I love you." He says.
"I love you too!" I yell as I jump into his arms again and he picks me up and kisses me.
"Katie," he says looking into my eyes. "I would never want to love anyone else besides you."
"I never wanna love someone else either, I will never stop loving you." We share another kiss and then we lay on the ground in each others arms. I look up at the stars and I drift off into sleep. I feel a kiss on my forehead before I sleep.
I woke up in Mike's bed. I was tucked into his covers and he was sitting at his desk on his phone. I shuffle a little and he looks over at me.
"Good morning beautiful." He says leaning over and kissing me. I sit up and smell the food downstairs.
"We're having crêpes for breakfast." He says smiling knowing that one of my favorite breakfast foods.
"With rasp.."
"With raspberries." He laughs interrupting me.
I stand and go to my room and get dressed. I was still in my dress from the party. I took it off and took a quick shower. I put on a teal bow half shirt and white skinny jeans. I curled my hair and put on my mascara. I walked out the room and walked down the stairs seeing the table being set. I looked at the clock on the wall, it was 9:30. I took a seat and took a few minutes and admired the promise ring I got last night. My mom walks in and sits down on one of the chairs besides me.
"So I see you said yes to the promise." She says
I smile, "Yes I did who wouldn't to such a great guy like him? Once everyone is seated we start eating. I took a crêpe and put in raspberries, wipcream, and powdered sugar. They aren't very filling and aren't a lot of food on just one so I ended up eating three. After breakfast I put on some teal converse and hopped in Mike's car. He drove me to Becky's. She said we needed to talk so I was gonna come. I kissed Mike goodbye and rang the doorbell. Becky edmediatley opened the door.
"Katie!" She exclaimed and pulled me inside. I turn around and see Mike wave goodbye. She takes me to her kitchen and we sit down.
"Want something to drink?" She asks.
"No thanks, I really want to know what you were talking about in the card you gave me."
"Ok," she says sitting down on a chair next to me. "I knew I shouldn't tell anyone else because I know no one will believe me but you."
"Ok spill the beans girl!" I say scooting closer.
"I'll believe you." I finish. She takes a deep breath.
"Ok so when I went driving through the mountains that night and say the guy in front of me, I swerved to avoid him and hit the mountain wall. I didn't actually pass out when I hit the wall..." She continues. "I passed out when..."
"When what?" I ask
"Ok, after the car crashed I thought I should get out of that car right away just in case the gas leaked and it would explode. But once I opened the busted door I saw the guy. He was all black. I saw him start to run away but for some reason he was limping and fell down. I asked him if he was ok but, he just stood up and grumbled at me. I screamed at him asking why the heck he was in the middle of the road and that it was his fault I could've died. I told him I'd make him pay for my new car. He was angry at me and lurched towards me and hit me in the head white his fist. I fell to ground and he mumbled the words, "keep her away!" Then I turned and say you guys running down the hill and the distant police cars sirens. Then he hit me with something and pushed me into the car. And then I passed out."
There was a moment of silence before I said,
"Wow."
"Katie, I think he meant you." She said again make intense, "keep you away from volcano road." I nodded knowing that that was very possible. "Katie, whoever that was does not want you to interfere with whatever he's doing." But I had to interfere, I need my dad.
"I gotta go, thank you for telling me this."
"Wait!" She yelled grabbing my hand. "There's one more thing."
"Yes?"
"When I was in the hospital the doctors said that I mumbled four numbers over and over again in my sleep."
"What were they?" I asked
"1, 9, 6, 7. I don't know what they mean, but it must mean something."
"Thank you, goodbye." I said as I stepped out the door. I walked down the street to the beach. I don't understand. 1, 9, 6, 7? What is that? All I know is that I need to get back into volcano road. I texted Mike as I walked to pick me up at the beach. I walked along the shore in my bare feet.
"Katie!" I hear Mike yell from behind me. I turn around and see him running to me waving. I ran closed and stopped in front of him and yelled,
"We need to get back to volcano road. Tonight!"
