Kim Dokja headed back home exhausted the pills rattled in his pocket as he opened the door. It was already noon and the kids should be home by now. The house was bright and he could already hear the kids inside.
"How was school today?" he asked walking up to them.
Lee Gilyoung was feeding his bugs and turned back to him "It was pretty good I made a friend!" he chirped.
"Great, you should bring them over!" Kim Dokja let out a breath of relief. He was worried about Lee Gilyoung but he seemed to do just fine.
"Where is Shin Yoosoung?" he asked.
"In her room," he answered.
"Shin Yoosung?" he called upstairs.
He heard a door opening and Shin Yoosung quickly walked downstairs her eyes wavered as she looked at Kim Dokja. Kim Dokja grabbed her into a hug
"What up?" he asked his voice softening.
"Nothing school was great," she mumbled her hands clenching onto Kim Dokjas's cloth.
"Hey, what's going on?" he prodded.
Shin Yoosung looked up at him and let go "Nothing, just feeling off." she said.
Before Kim Dokja could ask any more questions the front door opened.
"Yoo Joonghyuk!" Kim Dokja exclaimed. Yoo Joonghyuk looked like he had been scowling the whole day but his face relaxed.
"How was your day?" he asked pulling him into a small hug.
"Good, I'm not so sure about Shin Yoosung though," he said. Yoo Joonghyuk set down his bag.
"I'm fine!" Shin Yoosung said her voice higher than usual.
"Hey." Yoo Joonghyuks voice warning.
Shin Yoosung looked down and with a glint of defiance, she ran upstairs and slammed her door shut.
"She's already becoming a teenager." Kim Dokja sighed and turned to Yoo Joonghyuk.
"How was work?" he asked tenderly.
Yoo Joonghyuk crossed his arms. "It's ok, as long as it keeps us steady," he said.
"Hey I hired a babysitter for the kids tonight," he said his voice sly.
Yoo Joonghyuk perked up. "Dinner?" Kim Dokja asked. "Of course." Yoo Joonghyuk said.
Yoo Joonghyuk was dressed in a grey hoodie and another blue jacket on top of it. He also wore these black pants which Kim Dokja bought for him.
"You look nice." Kim Dokja said as he stepped out of the bathroom his hair still wet from the shower he took.
"You too." Yoo Joonghyuk said. Kim Dokja laughed and slipped on the cloth he had worn earlier. Then the familiar feeling wrapped around Kim Dokja. "I'm going to go outside really quick." Kim Dokja said his voice strained he grabbed his pill bottle and rushed outside. Cough
Again and again, he coughed. His hand covered his mouth but when he pulled it away it was stained a bright red. He cringed at the blood. His head hurt, his chest hurt, everything hurt. He quickly swallowed a couple of pills the taste of blood still strong in his mouth.
"It's ok, I'll be ok." he thought.
Yoo Joonghyuk was standing by the front door scrolling on his phone. Kim Dokja washed his hands roughly.
"You can head outside I'll meet you there." Kim Dokja said over the running water hoping that Yoo Joonghyuk wouldn't notice his ragged voice.
"Alright." Yoo Joonghyuk said putting on shoes and heading aside the door shut lightly. With a couple more scrubs his hands were clean.
The night air was cool and felt nice as Kim Dokja opened the door. Yoo Joonghyuk held his hand
"The usual?" he asked.
Kim Dokja nodded wistfully. Most of their dates included going to this restaurant. The restaurant where they went on their first date.
"Constellation Diner," he said already looking forward to the food.
The pair walked to the bus station still hand in hand.
"Should I tell him about the clinic?" Kim Dokja thought and looked at Yoo Joonghyuk. "Nah, he already has enough to worry about Let's just enjoy this." he closed his eyes focusing on Yoo Joonghyuk's hand in his.
The diner was busy as usual.
"Welcome back!" A man with golden hair greeted them.
"Sun Wukong!" Kim Dokja exclaimed.
At the Constellation Diner, all the workers went by different names. Since the two came here so much they were pretty much known by everyone who worked there.
"Date night?" he sat the couple down and scribbled down their orders, already knowing what they would want.
"Yep." Kim Dokja smiled.
"I'll bring your drinks and your food should be out shortly." Sun Wukong walked away with the menus.
Before Kim Dokja could even get a word out a girl's voice rang from behind him "Kim Dokjaa!" she hugged his head.
"Uriel!" Kim Dokja said startled.
"Yoo Joonghyuk nice to see you guys!" she said cheerfully. Yoo Joonghyuk glared at Uriel as she hugged Kim Dokja.
"Uriel," he said jealously tinting his voice.
Uriel was one of Kim Dokja's closest friends in college.
"How are the kids doing?" she asked.
"Great." Yoo Joonghyuk said.
Uriel backed away "I'll let you guys enjoy your date night, Kim Dokja text me we should hang out!" she waved and headed back to her table.
"You don't need to be mean." Kim Dokja grinned at Yoo Joonghyuk.
Yoo Joonghyuk scowled.
"Don't hang out with her," he said.
"You don't like her?" he asked dumbfounded.
"No, I just.." Yoo Joonghyuk turned away the words refusing to leave his mouth. Kim Dokja nodded
"I get it don't worry," he reassured him. Their plates came out. Kim Dokja had a bowl of beef noodles and Yoo Joonghyuk got Bulgogi beef. Kim Dokjas's eyes narrowed at the glaring red tomatoes in his dish. He carefully picked them out and placed them on Yoo Joonghyuk's plate. Yoo Joonghyuk raised an eyebrow.
"Are you serious?" he asked.
"Very." Kim Dokja said satisfied with his work.
"You kn-hng!" his voice cut off. "Oh." he thought. He held his breath repressing a cough. "I took those stupid pills!" he thought and bit his tongue his breath hitching.
