As the sun began its slow descent over the horizon, casting a golden hue across the sky, Kim Dokja felt a sense of peace wash over him. He watched as Shin Yoosung and Lee Gilyoung played in the sand, their laughter carrying in the breeze.
Kim Dokja felt a swell of emotion in his chest, bittersweetness mingled with a sense of sadness he hadn't felt in a long time. Yoo Joonghyuk had long fallen asleep next to him, his chest rising steadily. He shook him awake tenderly "Yoo Joonghyuk I'm going to grab something from the car, I'll be right back." Yoo Joonghyuk propped himself back, resting on his arms. "I can get it for you, what is it?" he asked. Kim Dokja shook his head "It'll be quick." he reassured. "I'll come with you." Yoo Joonghyuk sat up.
Kim Dokja sighed "So stubborn." he smiled to himself. The pair walked back to the car where Kim Dokja grabbed a box of sparklers. "I thought the kids would like these." he carried them out of the car. "Sparklers?"
Kim Dokja nodded, when I was younger my mom sometimes took me to the beach. It was a tradition for us to light up sparklers wherever we went, Kim Dokja smiled fondly. "Your mother.." Yoo Joonghyuks tone was tense.
Yoo Joonghyuk wasn't exactly the biggest fan of Kim Dokjas mother. "Have you told her the news yet?" he asked. Kim Dokja rubbed the back of his head as they walked back towards the beach "I haven't found the right time." he admitted. He quickly changed the topic not wanting to dwell on it any longer.
"Shin Yoosung Lee Gilyoung come here!" Kim Dokja called. They ran up to him shaking sand out of their clothes "What is it?" Lee Gilyoung peered into Kim Dokjas's arm. Kim Dokja pulled out a handful of sparklers with a grin. They're eyes lit up as Kim Dokja lit the sparklers up for them. The sky was already darkening so it shone brightly. Shin Yoosung held it far away from her the sparks falling on the sand, while Lee Gilyoung spun around with the sparkler leaving a trail of light behind him. Kim Dokja also handed a sparkler to Yoo Joonghyuk and Han Sooyoung. Yoo Joonghyuk shook the sparkler lightly his eyes glanced over at Kim Dokja whose face was illuminated by the light. He held the sparkler by his side and pulled Kim Dokja in close the cool air rushing past his ears. Their noses were touching as they looked into each other's eyes. Yoo Joonghyuk lightly held Kim Dokjas's chin and stole a kiss. It was short but something about it felt..final.
Kim Dokja pulled back his face was serene as they looked at each other in silence. The moment felt suspended in time, maybe they could just stay like this. The world is cruel.

The kids slept in the back of the car, wrapped up in towels. Lee Gilyoungs head rested on Shin Yoosungs shoulder. The smell of the ocean followed them as well as an exhausting amount of sand which will prove to be a lot of cleaning up for Yoo Joonghyuk later on. It was almost midnight when they started driving home. Han Sooyoung also sat in the back, although she was pushed closely to the car door. "Should we head to the hospital first?" Kim Dokja asked, after making sure that the kids were asleep. "Let's go to the house, it's on the way." Yoo Joonghyuk answered.
Kim Dokja leaned back in his chair, he was glad he was able to have another moment like this with his family. "Yoo Joonghyuk?" Kim Dokja whispered. "Mhm?" he hummed back in response his eyes fixed on the road.
"When I..leave, I want you to be able to find love again." the word felt like poison on his tongue. He hated the idea of Yoo Joonghyuk loving someone else but a part of him knew he couldn't let his passing take over Yoo Joonghyuk's life. He still had so much to live. Kim Dokjas's time was cut short and he couldn't do anything about it. Yoo Joonghyuks grip against the wheel tightened. "You have Han Sooyoung but that won't be enough." Kim Dokja managed to say. His words hung in the air.
"No, I love you Kim Dokja." Yoo Joonghyuk's voice was strained. "Even when I'm gone I want you to keep on living, I don't want you to feel like you need to live your life in sorrow."
"I want you to go to the beach again with the kids and Han Sooyoung, and enjoy it." Kim Dokja didn't realize until he felt hot tears on his cheeks that he was crying. Yoo Joonghyuk hand held onto Kim Dokjas. "I'll try." Yoo Joonghyuk said. He knew that nothing would be the same when Kim Dokja was gone. How could it?

They pulled up to the house, it was 10 pm now. The streets were dimly lit up by the streetlights, Yoo Joonghyuk parked the car careful not to wake anyone up. "I'll carry in the kids, you wake up Han Sooyoung." Yoo Joonghyuk said quietly. The tension between them was thick. Kim Dokja took a shallow breath got out of the car and reached over to Han Sooyoung, shaking her awake. Han Sooyoung woke up with a start and batted Kim Dokjas's hand away. "Good morning."
"What time is it?" Han Sooyoung rubbed her eyes. "Around 10." Kim Dokja took a step back letting Han Sooyoung get out of the car. "Oh, you're leaving?" her expression simmered. Kim Dokja nodded. "Yeah, Yoo Joonghyuk is going to drive but I'll try to convince him to come back."
Han Sooyoung ran a hand through her hair "Yoo Joonghyuk can stay with you, he can take however much time he needs." Kim Dokja flicked her on the forehead "You'll end up burning the house down." he joked unlocking the front door. "I am an adult thank you." Han Sooyoung jabbed a finger at Kim Dokja's chest. Kim Dokja let out a small laugh. "But for real I can watch them." Han Sooyoung said her face returning to normal.
"Bye," Kim Dokja said softly. Han Sooyoung grabbed his hand and squeezed it before letting go "See you later."
"Later." Han Sooyoung repeated.
