Kim Dokja held Lee Gilyoungs and Shin Yoosungs hand side by side as they walked down the grassy trail, Yoo Joonghyuk followed closely beside them. The sun was warm and bright, making Kim Dokja shield his eyes as he looked out into the distance. Lee Gilyoung tugged on his shirt and looked up at him with a wide grin on his face. Kim Dokja brushed the hair out of his face and returned the smile as he let go of their hands. Lee Gilyoung crouched down and Shin Yoosung followed. They seemed to be observing something, maybe a bug. Something caused Kim Dokja to look back, he was hit with a sense of uneasiness as he looked back at the empty field. Kim Dokja turned back and looked at Yoo Joonghyuk who had a sour look on his face. He brushed past Kim Dokja and took Lee Gilyoungs and Shin Yoosungs hands and started walking away. Kim Dokja tried to follow but his legs felt like lead. The sky started to darken and the sun was covered by grey, dark clouds. Fast winds blew sharply past him as if it were pushing him away. He opened his mouth to call out to them but his voice was lost in the howling winds. The silhouettes of his family walked farther and farther away as Kim Dokja cried out to them. "Wait, wait please!"
Kim Dokja's heart pounded in his chest as he watched Yoo Joonghyuk take Lee Gilyoung and Shin Yoosung's hands, leading them away from him. Panic surged through him, his breath catching in his throat as he struggled to keep up with them. No matter how hard he tried his legs refused to move as if weighed down by an invisible force.Desperation clawed at Kim Dokja's chest as he called out to them, his voice drowned out by the howling winds that whipped around him. The once bright and sunny day had turned dark and ominous, the sky obscured by thick, swirling clouds that seemed to mirror the turmoil within him.
"Wait, please!" Kim Dokja cried out, his voice barely audible over the roar of the wind. But his pleas fell on deaf ears as the figures of his family grew smaller and smaller in the distance until they disappeared completely from view.
Alone and helpless, Kim Dokja sank to his knees, the grass damp beneath him as tears blurred his vision. He felt as though he were being swallowed whole by the darkness that surrounded him, consumed by a sense of loss and despair.
Kim Dokja shot up, sweat trickled down his face. He could feel tears in his eyes as he started to calm down. He fell back onto the bed, he turned his head to the side.
"Yoo Joonhy-!" the words sent trembles of pain down his throat. Yoo Joonghyuk was leaning against the bed, it was obvious that he had been crying.
"Yoo Joonghyuk." Kim Dokja rasped, wincing slightly. He locked eyes with Yoo Joonghyuk as he woke up.
His eyes widened as he stared at Kim Dokja silently. His eyes welled up with emotions but Kim Dokja couldn't tell what they were. Kim Dokja remembered the first time he saw Yoo Joonghyuk cry. Back during their high school days, when Kim Dokja was distant, a husk of his present self.
The day when Yoo Joonghyuk found Kim Dokja on the roof.
He shook himself back to reality, he didn't want to remember those bitter memories. Kim Dokja placed a hand on Yoo Joonghyuk's head and ruffled his hair lightly.
"Morning," he whispered.
"I thought that-"
"That I was going to lose you." Yoo Jooonghyuk said tightly, he looked down at the ground.
"I'm still here." Kim Dokja's hand cupped his cheek, making Yoo Joonghyuk look up. "Don't cry." he said softly. His heart burst with affection for the man next to him. Kim Dokjas memories was still hazy, yet he was painfully aware of his body.
"I can't see you like that again." his voice wavered. Kim Dokja could hear the fear in his voice, "Why was this happening to him?"
A nurse walked in suddenly "Oh!" she looked wide-eyed at the now-awake Kim Dokja. "I'm going to call a doctor, please stay right here!" she scurried out of the room leaving the door swaying open.
Yoo Joonghyuk staggered up. Soon enough Lee Seolhwa walked in "Good to see you awake." she walked over towards them. She checked over his vitals and then glanced back over at Kim Dokja.
"You had a bad coughing fit a couple of days ago," she informed. "Are you able totalk?" she asked.
"A little bit," Kim Dokja managed to say.
Lee Seolhwa frowned, "Listen your condition is only going to get worse from here on out." the concern was evident in her tone as she looked at Kim Dokja sadly. "We can give you medicine to subside the coughing but It won't go away."
"If you leave the hospital we have no way of knowing when your next coughing fit will come, and if it's anything like last time it could be life-threatening." she paused and went quiet. Her watchful eyes never left Kim Dokja as the room was washed over with thick silence.
"There's something I want to do.." Kim Dokja murmured his eyes glinting. He held onto the blanket tightly. "The beach, just one more time."
"That would be hard, if something were to happen that would be dangerous." Lee Seolhwa said her voice strained. He felt Yoo Joonghyuks hand on his arm and he turned towards him.
"Kim Dokja it's too risky," he said.
"If I'm going to..be stuck here, I want to go the beach while I still have the chance." he pleaded lowly.
"Kim Dokja you have to think about what might happen." Lee Seolhwa tried to reason but her words did not affect Kim Dokja.
"I'll see what I can do." Lee Seolhwa gave in. Kim Dokja managed a weak smile. "Thank you," he said dryly.
