Yoo Joonghyuk stood in silence while he processed what Han Sooyoung just told him.
"What?" his voice was hard but a small bit of panic leaked through. "They never came home after school, I've been waiting for hours," she said quickly. "Have you called the school?" Yoo Joonghyuk asked. "They said that the two left at the normal time."
Yoo Joonghyuk's mind was instantly flooded with the worst-case scenarios. "Shit, Han Sooyoung are you sure they aren't just with a friend or sidetracked somewhere?" his voice grabbed the attention of passing nurses.
"They left a note!" Han Sooyoung exclaimed.
"A note, don't tell me they ran away, but why?" his mind was a mess.
"Yoo Joonghyuk.." Han Sooyoungs voice sounded dull. Yoo Joonghyuks grip on the phone tightened "What does it say?" he asked.
"They know."
His heart skipped a beat "They know?" he repeated, his voice was a whisper laced with dread and disbelief. Han Sooyoungs voice cracked as she continued, her own anxiety evident in her shaky tone
"They went to go see Kim Dokja for themselves."
After a moment of silence, he was able to find his voice again. "I need to go, Han Sooyoung please go look for them they might still be close by." he hung up the phone not waiting for Han Sooyoungs response.
His body was shaking. The kids knew.
How is Lee Gilyoung going to feel after losing his father figure again? What about Shin Yoosoung? He shoved down his thoughts and knocked on Kim Dokjas door
"Can I come in?" he asked. He heard the sound of a laptop closing
"Come in!"
Kim Dokja was sitting upright in his bed. "Kim Dokja..." Yoo Joonghyuks hand fell to his sides. His face was obviously distraught because Kim Dokjas's face fell and was replaced by a confused frown.
"Are you ok?" Kim Dokja asked lightly.
Yoo Joonghyuk sat on the bed aside from Kim Dokja "The kids found out, I don't know how but they ran away to come for you." the words tumbled out his eyes stayed glued to the ground he didn't want to see Kim Dokjas expression.
The room was washed over by silence, a thick silence that seemed to grab onto Yoo Joonghyuk and pull him down. A small sound escaped Kim Dokjas lips, his eyes were glossed over as he sat in a dreadful silence.

Something about the kids knowing made everything feel so sudden. It was like for the past week Kim Dokja was living his life as a spectator but now he was pulled back in. Shin Yoosoung and Lee Gilyoung how did they react? Were they mad at him, or maybe sad?
"Are they ok?" his voice trembled. Yoo Joonghyuks held onto his hand
"They didn't take it well, they ran away to find you." the words came out slowly he watched Kim Dokja's face shift with unreadable emotions.
"Ran away!?" he shot up his eyes locked directly with Yoo Joonghyuks.
"Where did they go, did you call the police yet?"
Yoo Joonghyuk grimaced "Han Sooyoung is looking for them right now but there's a good chance that they're on their way here."
"That's too dangerous we need to call the police!" Kim Dokja's heart was racing but a part of him was already exhausted.
"Lee Gilyoung and Shin Yoosoung are very smart, but if they don't turn up in the next 30 minutes I'll call the police," he said.
"I can't believe they would do this." Kim Dokja said his voice was strained.
"They'll turn up in no time." Yoo Joonghyuk leaned down and placed a tender kiss on Kim Dokja's forehead.
"I'm so tired, Yoo Joonghyuk." he sounded miserable his eyes looked empty as his gaze left Yoo Joonghyuks.
"We'll get through this." Yoo Joonghyuk stopped his voice from breaking, seeing the person he cared for most in this world in such a state made him feel a way he never wanted to feel ever again. Kim Dokja drooped back into a laying position.
"Kim Dokja?" Yoo Joonghyuk called but there was no response. He had fallen asleep. He looked at Kim Dokja's pale complexion, and a bitter angry feeling rose in his chest.
"He deserved to live a long happy life, so why did he have to face such hardships?"
He was angry at the world for ripping apart his life piece by piece. He was angry at Kim Dokja's parents for never showing him the affection he deserved. He was angry that they couldn't grow old together.

Shin Yoosoung wiped away a stray tear, her face was swollen and puffy from crying so much but Lee Gilyoung was no better. A couple hours ago they had found out that Kim Dokja was dying. It was impossible to describe the feeling of finding out the person that you love the most was in the hospital with a fatal illness. When the two had gotten home Han Sooyoungs phone caught Shin Yoosoungs eye, and she normally didn't care about other people's business but her phone was flooded with notifications from Kim Dokja.
Against her better senses, she decided to take a look and Han Sooyoungs password for fairly easy to guess.
Now they were on a bus surrounded by strangers and nothing but a map of the city.
