Flowertail flicked her tail unceremoniously as Bramblestar nodded his head begrudgingly at Menace and Nyx.

Nyx was standing near the entrance of the nursery, three small, round balls of fluff climbing over and around her. One of the she-cats had fluffed out brown fur with white chest fur and blue eyes. The other one was tortoiseshell she-cat with one blue eye and one green; the last was a tom with cream fur and black paws, ear tips, and tail tip, his hazel-green eyes wide, flecks of gold splattered across them.

"You may stay as warriors of ThunderClan." Bramblestar growled, not sounding like he would accept them at all.

"From now on, your warrior name will be-" Bramblestar started.

"Bramblestar," Menace interrupted. "Thank you for letting us stay and offering to give us warrior names."

Flowertail felt her heartbeat race.

Is he going to decline Bramblestar's offer?!

"But we would like to keep our current names." Menace finished, and Flowertail felt her pelt smooth.

Before another word could be said, the thorny entrance to the camp rattled, and a creamy-brown tom marched into camp. He was muscular, even larger than Bramblestar, and more large warriors strode into camp after him.

"We found them on the border." Bristlefrost explained breathlessly, panting.

Nyx curled tighter around her kits, her eyes wide as she stared at the leader. "You weren't supposed to follow me."

He growled, his pelt smooth despite the fury in his green eyes. "You weren't supposed to run away."

"How could I not!?" Nyx demanded, her head high although Flowertail could see her trembling ever so slightly.

He lowered his voice and meowed something too low for Flowertail to hear.

Nyx snarled something back, but his reply to whatever she said made her stop, staring up at him with an unreadable expression.

Menace seemed frozen with horror as he watched Nyx get to her paws slowly.

"Nyx, wait!" Menace rushed over, standing in front of her. "Don't go. Not again."

"I'm sorry."

"Nyx-"

"This is my mistake, and I have to pay for it." She interrupted him. "You tried to warn me. It's not your fault. Take care of my kits."

"No, I won't let-" Menace started, but a warning snarl from one of the newcomers silenced him.

Nyx followed after the leader of the group with her tail low enough to brush the ground and her head hanging as she stared over at her shoulder back at Menace and the kits.

Menace stared after her, sitting next to the kits until she disappeared from sight.

Flowertail padded silently over to Menace. "What just happened?" She demanded.

Menace turned his head away from her, his claws dug into the ground. "I don't want to talk about it," He growled, then he rushed out of camp into the forest.

Flowertail gritted her teeth in annoyance and ran after him.

He stopped at the bottom of an oak tree, panting.

"Menace-"

"I said I don't want to talk about it!" Menace roared, whirling around and swiping with one paw at Flowertail, his claws unsheathed.

Flowertail felt his claws slice her muzzle and she flinched back.

He hurt me.

Flowertail felt as if she was going to fall.

Then her world exploded with fury and suddenly she was filled with all the energy she needed. She pounced on top of him, but he managed to pin her down. She slipped one paw out from underneath him and lashed out at his muzzle.

But unlike what she'd expected, she still felt angry.

Her vision tinted red, and suddenly Flowertail couldn't see anything, even though she could feel herself moving, lashing out, then the splatter of blood across her paws.

Then everything turned black.
