Game day gone wrong... x

I wake up this morning feeling weird, I can't really describe it but something just feels off. I just brush past it and put it down to nerves seen as though it's game day. I turn over to face Leah but she isn't there, I hear gentle sniffles coming from the bathroom so I leap out of bed and run into the bathroom. 

Alice: "Le what's happened" I say looking at her curled up on the floor 

Leah: "I'm on my fucking period" she snaps 

Alice: "oh okay, how about we get you up and into the bedroom then I'll get you a hot water bottle" 

Leah: "well I can't fucking get up I'm stuck here" she snaps once again 

Alice: "that's okay I can help you" I say gently 

Leah: "fine" 

I go up behind her and put my arms under hers to lift her up to her feet and head into the bedroom 

Leah: "I'll have to go into the living room the bed sheets are stained" she's still got a snappy tone 

Alice: "right come on then I'll take you downstairs and I'll change the sheets" 

Leah: "I can go downstairs on my own" 

Alice: "right okay"

Leah goes downstairs and I change the bed sheets, I know people can be moody on their period but I'm just trying to help her. Once the bed sheets are changed, I go downstairs to get the hot water bottle for Leah and hear her on the phone. 

Leah: "okay I'll tell her about it, she's just come down now, bye love you" 

Well that makes me a bit worried but I just carry on in the kitchen filling up the water bottle for her till I feel a pair of arms wrap around my waist 

Leah: "I just want to apologise for being snappy with you before, it was wrong of me to speak to you that way, you were just trying to help me" 

Alice: "it's okay don't worry about it, people can be moody on their period" 

Leah: "I also want to tell you that I have endometriosis, hence me being on the floor curled up, the pain was so bad" 

Alice: "I used to know a girl who had that when I was in school so I know all about it, I appreciate you telling me so now I know what to prepare for" 

Leah: "thank you for being so understanding, I love you" 

Alice: "that's okay, I love you too"  

I give Leah the hot water bottle whilst I go and get changed ready to leave for the game, Leah won't be playing so she doesn't need to get changed but she's still coming along 

Alice: "you ready to go darling" 

Leah: "yeah, let's go" 

We get in the car and drive to the bus where we all travel to games, the bus journey doesn't last long before we arrive at the Emirates. I love playing here, the stadium is beautiful and the atmosphere is incredible. 

Jonas announces the line up and I hear my name, I'm filled with excitement but also dread, I still have that weird feeling from this morning, almost like something is going to go wrong. 

Boy was I right. 

We're 30 minutes into the game and I receive a shove in the back, I stretch my leg out to try stabilise myself, well that was a massive mistake. Pop. That's all I felt in my knee. It's over. 

Loads of the girls come sprinting over to me but are soon moved by the medics. 

Medic: "Alice can you get up" 

Alice: "umm yeah I think so"

I try and stand with assistance of course but my leg buckles 

Beth: "nah Al you need the stretcher" 

Alice: "ain't no way I'm going on that thing, I can walk it's okay"

We walk off the pitch and I stop for a moment to clap to the fans to let them know I appreciate their support then we head into the medical room. 

Alice: "it's my ACL isn't it" 

Medic: "we will need some scans to 100% confirm it but I believe it is yes" 

Alice: "goodbye season, see you next time" I say sarcastically but I can feel the tears burning in my eyes 

Suddenly there's a knock at the door

Medic: "it's Leah" 

Alice: "let her in" 

Leah: "I'm so sorry darling" she says as she hugs me 

Alice: "why are you apologising Le" 

Leah: "it's my fault, you were giving me all your attention this morning and I spoke to you like shit and now this happens" 

Alice: "it's not your fault at all, unfortunately it's just something that happens Le" 

Leah: "is it your ACL?" 

Alice: "I will need scans to confirm but the medic is pretty sure it is" 

Leah just hugs me again, gripping hold of me tightly 

The game ends and we win 4-0, it's always good to get a win and especially at the Emirates, the medic puts a brace on my knee and I'm given crutches to get around. Me and Leah head into the changing room to get our things ready to go home. 

Beth: "oh my Al, I love you so much" she says hugging me 

Alice: "love you too Beffy" 

All the girls are just looking at me with a sad look in their eyes 

Alice: "I'm not dying guys you don't need to look at me all sad, I'll be fine, back before you know it and annoying you all as usual" 

Lia: "we've got you always" she smiles 

Alice: "love you Wally" 

Leah grabs both of our things and then we drive home, Leah has to help me get changed which feels a bit weird as I've never been like this in front of her before but I haven't got much choice, I can't do it myself. 

Leah: "goodnight darling, I love you" 

Alice: "night Le, I love you" I cuddle into her more
