Did he notice... I was eavesdropping?"You're going to cook some?" he asks and his eyes light up. I chuckle.
"I'll make some for you as well."
"Thanks." he smiles, adjusting the baby in his arms.
"Did he wake up a long time ago? I put him to sleep before I went out."
"Nah, probably around ten minutes ago?"
I nod. I place the plastic bag on the counter and grab a pan. I start boiling the water. Jugkook takes a seat at the counter placing the baby in his lap. We both stay silent for a while. A hint of awkwardness from the interrupted moment earlier lingers in the air, though neither of us dared to bring it up.
There's no way he didn't notice I was already there...
Finish preparing the noodles and now I just wait in front of the pan as it cooks. The whole time Jungkook only silently looked at me and played with Munie.
"Ramen's almost ready," I call out, attempting to break the silence."Nice, Hope it's as good as it smells."
"So do I." I let out a soft chuckle.
We take our seats at the counter, Jungkook still had Munie on his hold. He supported the little baby on his thighs, freeing one of his hands so he could eat. We ate in silence for a little while. I wasn't sure what to say nor what I should say. Should I tell him I heard him and put an end to this awkward atmosphere? Should I wait for him to say something? If he ever will... Honestly, I don't think Jungkook wants to tell me what is the reason he feels like we shouldn't keep Munhee. Maybe he's not ready to open up or is too personal... I don't want to force him, so it should be best if I don't address it. I nod my head coming to a decicing. Yet, Jungkook seemed to have followed a different trail of thoughts from mine. I looked up from my bowl of ramen to look at him. Our eyes met as he cleans his throat.
"You... Heard it, right?" Jungkook bites on his bottom lip.
Taken aback, it takes me a moment to respond. I swallow the noodles in my mouth before I speak, "Yeah... but you don't have to worry!"
"It's not like it was something you weren't supposed to hear, really..." He trails off.
"Huh?" I furrow my eyebrows, my head tilting slightly sideways. What is that supposed to mean? Seeing my confusion, Jungkook sighs before he decides to speak.
"What I mean was, That–" Jungkook starts but is cut off by Munhee's loud cries. We cast our gazes on the small baby that is screaming his lungs out. He can't be hungry, it isn't time for his next bottle yet. Is he tired? My roommate crawled the baby in his arms, he stood up to bounce the baby, trying to calm him down. We exchange confused looks. The previous topic is now forgotten as we now occupy ourselves with thoughts of how to care for the little baby boy.
"Is he sleepy?" I question.
"I think so." Jungkook caresses the baby's little head resting it on his broad shoulders. The baby seems to calm down just a little, but it was enough to know that our suspicion was right. I too stand up from my seat walking towards the two. I reach for the baby, making Jungkook frown. I motion with my finger for him to pass Munie to me. He does as I ask.
"It's my time to take care of him for the night." I smile softly as I make sure Munhee is comfortable in my hold. "I'll head in first, finish your meal."
"But you haven't finished eating yet."
"It's okay, I almost did." I reassure him. It was a lie, though. My ramen bowl was more than half full. But Munhee was more important and in all truth, I really wasn't that hungry either, so it was okay. "Good night, Jungkook." I wave at him before disappearing into my room to put Munie to sleep before also helping myself. I too am tired and am in need of a good night's sleep. I hope Munie also coperates for that.
