{gus & farrah both age 16}

the group of girls broke apart in the hallway. farrah strayed from her friends, deciding that she had enough of class today. last period chemistry class was basically useless to her anyways. the bell had rang so she walked carefully down the hallways, careful to not draw any extra attention to herself.

she made it to the back stairway safely, making a run for it down the stairs. most students didn't have to put that much effort in to ditching class but farrah had a bad habit of it, sh'ed been caught skipping class enough times she had the eyes of every staff member of the school on her, or so she felt like it.

farrah didn't have much aspiration to do anything in life, like a job or anything. her grades just scraped by passing. she had always just hoped she'd find a rich husband or something one day.

in her rapid flee down the stairs she failed to pay attention to the oncoming direction, hitting shoulders with some guy. the collision had caused her drop her bag at his feet. "fuck. i'm so sorry" she apologized to the boy. "don't worry about it" he told her. he smiled and handed the bag back to her. "thanks" she was gracious and they both continued to wherever they were going.

she'd seen the boy around before. she didn't know his name, he'd only been around for the last year or so. he was tall and had bleached blonde hair. she'd never really seen him up close until now. she noticed his kind eyes and warm smile.

gus was flustered by his encounter with the girl. he knew of farrah, everyone did. she was rarely without a group of people, in fact this may have been the only time he'd seen her alone. he liked her dark hair and green eyes. she was usually dressed in some sort of revealing outfit. she was always getting told off by a teacher or principal.

gus didn't like how the other guys at school looked at her. not that he even knew her at all, but he knew she didn't deserve to be treated like an object.

farrah made it outside, they sky had been grey all day but as soon as she stepped outside rain drops began to fall. "shit" she cursed to herself. she sheltered under a tree, trying to stay as dry as she could.

she dug around in the bottom of her bag, pulling out a cigarette and a lighter. each time she flicked the lighter the wind of the oncoming storm quickly destroyed the small flame. "ugh why does everything have to suck" she groaned to herself, helplessly continuing in her attempts.

at the last minute gus decided he also didn't want to go to last period today either. he turned back around in the opposite direction he had came from. he had gotten down to the last story, he looked out the window, he didn't mind the rain really. he did notice farrah, he saw her getting flustered by the wind. he thought it was sort of cute, usually she seemed pretty stone cold.

"need a hand?" he asked her, coming to join her under the branches of the oak. "please" she chuckled quietly. gus cupped his hands over the end of the cigarette, blocking the wind so the flame would hold. "thanks, you're a life saver" she smiled, grateful for the boy's sudden appearance.

"you mind?" he asked her, pulling his own smoke out of his pocket. farrah returned the favour, both of them taking a peaceful first inhale.

"you're new right?" farrah asked gus, "sort of. i moved here last year" he told her. she nodded, feeling a little embarrassed for her lack of observation. "i'm farrah by the way" she introduced herself to him. "gus" he said, he already knew who she was but he was careful not to let on to that.

"skipping?" she asked him, "yeah" gus told her, he was having a bad day. one of those particularly bad days where he just wanted to disappear. "fuck this place, right?" farrah scoffed. "one hundred percent" he agreed.

"i'm gonna go home and dry off but thanks again, it was nice to meet you gus. i'll see you around?" she asked. she began to walk away but she walked backwards, still looking at him while they wrapped up their brief visit. "yeah, you will" gus said, he liked the idea of that.

they both walked in opposite directions. the momentary feeling of uplift gus had talking to farrah disappeared almost immediately. all of his thoughts flooding back to him. an aspiring musician his gears were turning, new lyrics coming together in his head. he had no intrest in school, his heart was all in for his music. he was gonna be huge, if he decided to stay alive that long.

i got a feelin' that i'm not gonna be here for next year
so let's laugh a little before i'm gone
ive been dreamin' of this shit for a while now
got me high now
she don't love me, but she's singin' my songs
i don't feel much pain
got a knife in my back and a bullet in my brain
i'm clinically insane
walkin' home alone i see faces in the rain
where did all the time go?
spend it gettin' high while i hide from the five o
where did all the lines go?
now, im so high i be fuckin' with my eyes closed
she don't fuck with me no more, i'm on her mind though
come and fuck me in the mornin' with the blinds closed
i can show you everything i learned
while you were away from me
runnin' away from me, but im not givin' up on you
it's just the way i be
it's just the way i see things
take her away from me, but im not givin' up on you, no
it's just the way i be
it's just the way i see things
