𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐇𝐎𝐔𝐒𝐄 𝐈𝐒 stillborn. Earlier today we had a change of scenery, taking our stay at my mansion instead of Logan's crappy shack in the middle of the woods. I told him I was too pretty for twigs. He didn't particularly want to tag along until Cain had to convince him.

Just to pitch the idea that going back might be bad for Lolita. We all know that nobody tells an alpha what to do.

I kind of missed it here. The height of the eleven foot walls, pallid tiles, ten baths, nine rooms, a dining room that holds a bronze banquet table with the adjoining kitchen.

My best part of this house-the library. And the wine cellar. I'm currently sat on the mahogany beanbag in the middle of the room. I love books. I sometimes hoard the ones I don't need. The smell comforts me. It keeps me safe.

I exhaled a breath of smoke, gazing at the three floors of books surrounding me. I sometimes wish I wasn't the way I am. That way I would have a job as a librarian.

"I thought I'd find you here." I didn't need to look at Cain to know it was him.

"Did you think that or did you sniff me out?"

He laughed lowly. The foot of his shoes stopped inches from me as he towered over. I looked up at him and his arms are crossed.

I feel like Cain is like me. All he ever did was stare at the walls in my own personal library. He gawked at them and pelted me with a few questions of his own.

"What?" He finally asks.

"You tell me Cain bear; you're the one interrupting me you know."

He rolled his eyes, his hands dropping to his side. Cain took a seat diagonal me.

"Lolita is still asleep. How long will she be?"

I shrug. "Another twenty-four hours or so. Where's Logan?"

"Asleep, actually. Ever since Lolita came it's all he ever does now. Sleep and wonder about her."

"Well, we both can agree that him being asleep is the best for us right?"

He frowns. "What do you mean?"

I shook my head, my eyes not leaving his. "Who's your mate? If you don't mind me asking."

"Her name is Jenny."

"Do you love Jenny?"

There was a bit of silence. "Of course I do. Why do you ask?"

I couldn't help but smile to myself. "You remember you owe me a favor right?"

He gulps. "Yeah."

"Good."

Silence returned and I finally looked away from him. In all my centuries of living, Cain is the only person that's made me excited beyond one night. And we haven't even had sex.

I laughed. That's pathetic, even for me.

"What's so funny?"

I shift my eyes back at him and sat up, setting my pipe aside. I got on my hands and knees in a teasing manner. Cain arched a brow and I reached him.

"I'm high."

"No you're not."

"No...I am." If I pretend I am, then I am. "Can I have a kiss, Cain? Logan won't hear it." I tease lowly. I was sure I could hear him swallow. He says he's in love with whomever Jenna is but...I could sense it on him.
