𝗜 𝗦𝗧𝗔𝗥𝗘𝗗 𝗔𝗧 the pot, watching the boils form and burst every second. Cain said that Logan is alive, oh goodie. The fact of the matter is that Lolita is still frozen and I have to try, before Logan gets here—and who knows how long that'll be—to wake Lolita.
I feel like it's impossible. I had to wait for her to wake up. I didn't cast a spell, or anything like that. I had to wait. I'll try my best.
"How's it coming along?" Cain asks. I didn't hear him come in. The past week I had been sulking over my study. It's my most sacred place, so seeing it destroyed in the way it was pained me. I got most of everything back though, fixed it up with a spell or two and continued to sulk as Dasher lingered in my ears.
How annoying. I should send him back, but I'm cautious about what'll happen if I, a warlock, breaks an oath. But he owes me too, so would it cancel each other out?
"Not sure. I could only hope for the best." I respond, my eyes not leaving the pot. Who cares where Dasher is. He's probably out getting his next feed elsewhere when he's not torturing me.
"You're thinking of him."
I closed my eyes, a small smile meeting my features. At least one good thing remains in this now tragic life of mine. I turned to Cain and crossed my arms.
"Stop studying me."
"Why?"
"I don't like it. I liked you better when you were an admiring idiot."
I took a seat on the couch and grabbed the glass that held my fourth pour of alcohol in it.
"And you stink of grey goose."
"Thanks." I drank it, setting the cup down. I brushed my hair back and itched my scalp. I looked at Cain as he joined beside me.
"Do you think I should cut my hair?" He gazed at it. His brows scrunched and his lip twitched. "Or dye it and cut it?" I ask softer this time.
"Do you like your long hair?"
I nodded. "I do."
"The color?"
"The classic black...yes."
"So why cut it?"
I sighed and set my knees up to my chest, my eyes not leaving his. "I hate it when he touches it." I explain through another heavy mutter.
"It's tainted now. I want it gone." Cain exhaled and eased closer to me. Him touching my ear and the tips of his fingers grazing the top of my ear made me reopen my eyes.
"Well, I like it. But do what you need to do to show power, but you mustn't show weakness either. Cutting your hair will be an example. He may think you're scared of him."
I looked off, a sudden sadness filling my body. But I am scared of him.
I raised my head, a light bulb clicking on in my head. "Fear." I got up and turned the brew off. I rushed out of the study and went to the pool. Dasher was there, staring at the frozen water that holds Lolita's body.
