CAM'S POINT OF VIEW

"DANNY CLOUGH was one of the older agents when I was starting," Lockwood explained to the trio in a serious tone. The three stood to the edge, remaining out of the way as DEPRAC officers came and went from the scene, "He helped me out. Got me out of trouble a few times. He was one of those people who had no idea how cool he was,"

"How did he go from that to . . ." Cam trailed off slightly, watching as DEPRAC men in bright yellow plastic, protective wear carried the rotten body out of the river, "I'm sorry,"

Lockwood had a solemn expression on his face, with hints of grief, emotions that Cam didn't think he'd ever seen on the boys face. He'd seen him worried, but this was different. This was someone he had known, and from what he could tell, was someone who had meant a lot to him at a point in his life.

"Let's just keep this to ourselves," Lockwood spoke up to the two boys, "We need to find out who his partner was,"

"We dredged the whole stretch. No mirror," Barnes informed the trio, turning around to face them instead of the river, "Any idea of who the body is?" Lockwood asked him.

"Still working on it, but going off the tattoos, definitely a relic man,"

Kipps and Kat stood opposite the trio, both slightly at shock from the discovery, "Who do you think did that to him?" the blonde asked, quickly clarifying his question after, "His eyes, I mean,"

"No one," Barnes shoved his hands into his pockets, looking between both groups, "We found ocular tissue under his fingernails. And injury suggests it's his own. Whatever he saw in that mirror made him do that to himself,"

Cam spared a glance at Lockwood, who shifted onto his left foot, glancing at the ground, "You need to make a breakthrough. If that thing gets into the wrong hands," he didn't need to finish his sentence. They all knew what he meant.

If the mirror got onto the black market, then the visitors themselves wouldn't be the only problem.

"We won't let you down, Inspector," Kipps assured him, before he and Kat left the scene, to which the trio followed behind soon after.

"Fittes will go wide. They'll round up every relic man until they find something," Lockwood explained to the boys as the three crossed under a bridge. It was damp and dim, the only light being the fading sun both in front of and behind them, and an old flickering light that had been installed at least twenty years ago.
