Sunshine rays moved through

the window hitting Steve's face. He groaned, opening one eye before quickly closing it. The male turned his body, not wanting to get out of bed.

Those rays didn't last long, as rain started to pour outside. This made Steve continue to stay put, with how he was feeling today. Luckily, his parents were gone again.

It had been a couple of weeks back into school, and Steve hated every minute he spent except when he was with Vanessa. They were finally dating, so of course, he was happy. But since classes started up, the male's father had been on his ass about everything.

"When do you start swim practice?"

Steve shrugged, "I didn't take it this semester. It's my last year."

His dad's stare lingered for a moment. He didn't understand why his son would "throw" something like that away.

The older man wanted Steve to do things a specific way. Maybe it had to do with how they looked to other people; they needed to look like the perfect family. He didn't care if his son didn't want to do it either.

"Don't tell me you gave that up because of that girl you're running around town with. She's completely distracted you," his father argued.

Steve set his fork down. "She's not some girl. She's my girlfriend dad."

"Yeah," he scoffed. "Alan Munson's daughter."

Once his father said that, the boy felt something boiling inside him. Vanessa was nothing like her father, not one bit. She was better than him in every way possible, and so was Eddie.

He hated how people talked about the two Munson siblings. Steve wasn't afraid to tell everyone Vanessa was his girlfriend, either.

"But what if..," Vanessa started, and Steve hushed her, pulling her closer to him as they walked through the cafeteria holding hands.

Even with all the looks, the Harrington boy didn't care one bit, which made Ness even happier.

Steve continued to hear his father say more things at the dinner table. It didn't take long for him to stand up and grab his plate.

"I need to excuse myself," he muttered before anything else transpired. A fight with his dad wasn't anything Steve wanted to do. The boy didn't understand why his father couldn't just be happy for him.
