It was a couple hours after midnight, and Emily was still in the hospital. She had to stay there overnight for observation.
She was sleeping with JJ still wrapped in her arms, who was also sleeping peacefully.
Rossi walked in and stood by her bedside. Without opening her eyes, Emily mumbled, "Don't even think about waking her up."
Rossi laughed softly. "You need to sleep. This can't be very comfortable."
Emily moved her hand back onto JJ's waist. "You'd be surprised," she shrugged. "What are you doing here? It's late."
"Just wanted to make sure you were fine. The team will come see you tomorrow before you're discharged," he told her.
"Thank you," she smiled. "But I am okay. I promise."
JJ started to stir slightly, which was their cue to stop talking. "I'll see you tomorrow," he said. "Goodnight, Emily."
"Night," Emily murmured as he walked away. JJ squirmed a little more and her eyes opened just a bit.
"Who's there?" she slurred, closing her eyes again. "It's nothing, baby. Go back to sleep," Emily said, kissing her head.
The next morning, the team did come see Emily. Spencer brought her a coffee which was much appreciated.
By ten am she was discharged and checked out of the hospital. That meant the team could fly home.
The jet ride was quiet. It wasn't night, but everyone was still slightly tired. Reid and Hotch played chess, and Derek had his headphones in. Rossi was reading his own book in the corner.
JJ had her head resting against the window. "Are you sure it's not hurting? You can take more pain medication," she said, looking over to Emily next to her.
"I'm fine. Stop worrying," Emily smiled. JJ rolled her eyes. "You can't tell me to stop worrying. You were stabbed, for god's sake. That is worrying."
"It was barely a stab. And plus, I am fine," Emily sighed. "Sixteen stitches is not barely anything," JJ pointed out. "You're hurt."
"Fine, I am hurt. But there's only one thing that's going to help me heal," Emily said, nudging JJ in the ribs.
"And what's that?" she asked, knowing the answer wasn't going to be anything she liked.
"If we can watch 21 Jump Street together," Emily grinned. JJ groaned. "Worst movie ever created." She took a breath. "But fine. I guess getting stabbed is really working out in your favor."
"I knew you'd say yes," said Emily. She had a triumphant smile on her face.
When the jet landed they headed back to their house. They both took a quick shower, and Emily laid down in bed.
It was a bit after noon, but neither of them felt like doing anything. JJ came upstairs and climbed into bed next to her. "Want a popsicle?" she asked, handing the cherry flavored one to Emily.
Emily nodded and took it, as JJ unwrapped her own blue raspberry one. "I knew there was a reason I married you," she smiled, kissing JJ's temple.
Emily put on 21 Jump Street and they both watched it together. In all honesty, it wasn't nearly as bad as JJ remembered it. But she was never going to admit that to Emily.
The credits began to play, but neither of them moved from their positions.
"Em?" JJ said, glancing up at her. "What if we started trying for a baby?"
Emily was a little taken aback. It had been a few weeks since their discussion in the treehouse, and they decided it was something they wanted to do. They'd been talking about it a lot, but Emily didn't want to start any process until JJ was ready.
It had been months since Mia left, but she knew JJ was still dealing with it. She didn't want to put the stress of a new baby on her just yet.
"What makes you say that now?" Emily asked curiously. JJ twirled a piece of Emily's hair, a nervous habit she had.
"I just think that we can't keep waiting forever. We don't know what's going to happen in the future. A couple days ago I couldn't have known you were going to get stabbed. If we don't try now, we might never do it," she said.
"Are you sure you're ready for this? Having a baby is a huge decision," Emily said, using her thumb to draw circles on the small of JJ's back.
"I am. I know how much work a baby is, but we want kids don't we? People say it all the time. There's no 'right' time to have kids. Now is the best we're going to get," JJ told her.
"I guess you're right. There's no time like the present," Emily grinned. She used her hand to tickle JJ in the side.
JJ squealed, and rolled off of her before she hurt Emily's stitches. "If you weren't severely injured right now, I'd get you back for that," JJ said, sticking her tongue out.

"Come on, we're gonna be late!" Emily said, attempting to drag JJ off the couch. "It's cold outside!" JJ whined.
"Put on a sweater. We're leaving," Emily told her. She tossed a jacket at JJ.
It was Friday afternoon and they were on their way to the doctor's office. After talking it out a little more, they decided that they were really ready to try and have a baby.
Today, JJ had an appointment with her OBGYN. It was just to make sure that she would be able to carry the baby. If everything looked normal, they would be able to start the process very soon.
JJ finally managed to pull herself off the couch. Emily grabbed the keys and they headed outside to the car.
"Are you nervous?" Emily asked, as she started the drive. "A little," JJ admitted. "What if something's wrong?"
"We just have to hope for the best. Today is barely anything. Just a quick ultrasound," Emily told her. She grabbed JJ's hand and squeezed it.
When they arrived at the hospital, they made their way to the right section and sat in the waiting room. JJ anxiously tapped her foot, her knee bobbing up and down.
"You're going to come with me, right?" JJ asked, continuing to fiddle with anything she could get her hands on.
"No, JJ. I walked all the way up here to go wait in the car," Emily replied sarcastically. "Yes, I'm going with you."
"I was just double checking," JJ said, picking at a loose thread on her jeans.
Emily put her hand on JJ's knee to settle it. "Stop freaking out. It's just one appointment."
Before JJ could answer, someone walked out and called her name.
JJ got up, still freaking out despite what Emily had told her. They both followed the nurse to a room. She told them the doctor would be in shortly, and shut the door.
JJ took off her jeans and covered herself with the flimsy paper. She sat in the exam chair, her heart beating a mile a minute.
A couple minutes later the doctor walked in. She was tall, with red hair and a bright smile. "Good to see you, JJ," she said, closing the door.
"Hey, Dr. Montgomery," JJ responded. She was clearly a little nervous.
Dr. Montgomery put on her gloves. She set up the ultrasound machine and had the screen facing them.
Emily had her hand on JJ's shoulder as Dr. Montgomery did the internal ultrasound. "You okay?" Emily asked, watching as JJ shifted around a bit.
"Fine," she said shortly. She was holding her breath without realizing it.
She let out a sigh of relief when Dr. Montgomery was done. Emily and JJ could both see by the look on her face that they were most likely going to get decent news.
"Everything's looking normal. We'll be able to inseminate whenever you guys can make an appointment," she told them, a smile on her face.
JJ turned to Emily, her cheeks turning pink from the excitement and nervousness. "Nothing's wrong," she said, grinning.
"Nothing's wrong," Emily repeated, also smiling. She leaned down and kissed the top of JJ's head.
