JJ leaned against the wall of the nursery, watching Emily hunch over the directions of the crib.

"You look like a macaroni noodle," JJ smiled. Emily sat up and glared at her. "My posture isn't exactly the thing I'm worried about right now. Thanks for the help, by the way," she replied sarcastically.

"I'm pregnant. Pregnant people don't build cribs," she said, rolling her eyes.

Emily laughed and tossed her the directions. "Fine. But pregnant people can still read," she said. "What the fuck does it mean by attach piece D to piece F, when there is no piece D or piece F?"

JJ looked over the directions and scratched her head. "Maybe it's actually B and E. But the just letters just look funny," she shrugged.

"And these directions are in Swedish!" Emily groaned, as JJ handed them back. "Why did we have to buy a Swedish crib? Why not a German crib, or a Russian crib? At least I can read those!"

JJ giggled as Emily looked frustratedly at all the pieces.

"You know what?" Emily finally said. "This looks pretty self explanatory. I'll just do it without the directions."

"That doesn't sound like the safest option," JJ said skeptically.

Emily shrugged. "You can sleep in it tonight. If it stays up, it'll be fine for a 6 pound baby."

"I'm not sleeping in that thing!" JJ said, giving Emily a look. "You sleep in it. I'm the pregnant one."

Emily looked at the picture on the box. "Mm, I don't think that's happening," she said. "We can put some weights in it. That'll make sure it's safe for the baby."

JJ just sighed and sipped on the glass of ice tea she was holding. "You'll have to put it together before we can even think about doing that," she pointed out.

"How hard can it be? It's just like a wooden cage without a top," Emily said. JJ laughed and sat back, preparing to enjoy whatever Emily was going to do.

Sure enough, after about an hour, the crib was built. It truly was easier to do it without the directions, and it seemed fairly sturdy.

"Are you sure you're not missing a bunch of extra nails or something?" JJ asked skeptically. The fact that it turned out so well was the concerning part to her.

"I screwed every single piece together. This thing isn't falling apart any time soon," Emily assured her. She admired her own work. She turned to look over the whole nursery now.

"We should hang some stuff on the walls. Make the place a little more fun," she said, staring at the empty walls.

"No need. I'm going to paint them," JJ told her. Emily smiled at her. "You're painting them?" she asked. Truthfully, she'd never seen JJ paint. She'd seen her draw, and she was pretty decent at it.

"Yup. That wall at least," she said, pointing to the wall behind the crib. "I was thinking of doing flowers, or mountains maybe. Something that'll match the pink."

"I think that's a great idea," Emily smiled. She glanced down at her watch. "It's almost time to go."

JJ's heart sped up. Today was her ultrasound appointment. She was officially out of the first trimester, and they'd get to find out the gender today.

"Let's go right now," she said, grabbing Emily's hand. "We'll be so early," Emily laughed.

"I don't care. I want to go now," JJ said, suddenly unable to keep still. Emily decided to not fight her on it. They hopped in the car and headed to the doctors office.
