I got woken up by Karabelos alarm blaring through the entire apartment. How many times should I tell him to wake up at the first ring?

NALEDI: Karabelo!
I called out to tell him to actually wake the fuck up.

I grabbed my phone from the dresser next to me and realized I'm 30 minutes late for work.

NALEDI: Shit.
I quickly got up from bed and immediately felt an aching headache.

Made sense, since all I could think about was Zwide. I blame him for everything, my parents, Kopano,my miscarriage.....but yet I can't bring myself to hate him.

*work*

ZENZILE: Last night was amazing. I've never been paid that much money in one night.

KATISO: And then wena ,Naledi ?

NALEDI: What?

KATISO: Haibo, a woman doesn't just dissappear like that at night and comes to work late the next day. Someone must've laid the D right.

NALEDI: Uhmm no.
I said brushing the entire conversation off.

ZENZILE: I'm starting to have a feeling ya hore you're actually dating a blesser wasteba. Yoh never talk about your exes, your relationships. Nothing.

NALEDI: Is that a problem Zenzile?

KATISO: Hao bathong, we're not trying to be...

NALEDI: I have a shift to get back to,excuse me.
I left the kitchen and continued with my job.

It was 18:00pm and my shift finally came to an end. I grabbed my stuff and called an Uber.

''Naledi.'', heard from behind me.

NALEDI: Fikile?
What was SHE doing here?

FIKILE: Can I please talk to you for a minute . Please.

NALEDI: I have to uhmm . I have to get going.

FIKILE: Its important.

NALEDI: If it has nothing to do with my siblings, it's not that important.

FIKILE: Its Godongwana. He's in the hospital.
I immediately felt a lump in my throat....

FIKILE: He got into a car accident after leaving my event last night, apparently he was drinking and driving.

NALEDI: So what?
Okay we both know I still care about him but she doesn't have to know

FIKILE: I just thought you should know. Naledi ,he... he's beat up bad and lost alot of blood. He took a ton of pressure to the spine. That could initially cause....I don't even  wanna say it.
She started breaking down and crying.  I felt for her, really.

NALEDI: Its too early to be thinking about paralysis Fikile, he's going to be okay.

I went in to hug her and got a clear whiff of her alcohol sent. Not to mention she's heavily pregnant.

NALEDI: Come on Fikile. Do you really think drowning yourself in alcohol will ease the pain?

I canceled my Uber and got into Fikiles car.

FIKILE: What are you doing?
She asked wiping the tears from her face.

NALEDI: I'm taking you home. Get in.

The drive was silent , fortunately.
I texted Lihle to come pick me up at Fikiles place.

FIKILE: Thank you Naledi. You're a nice person,I can see why Godongwana loves you. You should come in, please. Everyone would be pleased to see you.

NALEDI: I don't think so Fikile. I don't want to step on anyone's toes.

She rolled her eyes and pulled my by the hand.

FIKILE: We have a guest!
She said with everyone sitting around the dining table. Lunathi ,Bokang, Siya ,Jorja,Sindy and Maxwell.

LUNATHI: What a pleasant surprise.

NALEDI: Fikile insisted.

SINDY: We're glad you're here Naledi. We could all use the support.
She got up from her chair and gave me a warm hug.

I honestly wasn't expecting so much warmth from them.

The silence was cut off by Bokangs phone ringing.

BOKANG: Good evening Doctor.
Tension immediately sparked after that sentence.

BOKANG: Complications? What kind of complications?

Oh my God. What's going on?

BOKANG: We're on our way.
He hung up and had a worried expression on his face.

FIKILE:What's wrong baby?

BOKANG: The doctor said Godongwanas his operation had minor complications.

NALEDI: What does that mean?

BOKANG: I don't know but the his doctor insisted we come to the hospital.
