Amanda's P.O.V
The coffee that was in front of me which was once warm and wonderful was now cold and bitter much like my heart.
I read my favorite book (for the tenth time) A Walk to Remember . I sat in a coffee shop called 'The Coffee House,' a place where I so happen to be at everyday.
Everyday before and after school I come to this shop for five hours while reading the book and drinking the coffee- part of the time at least. I sit in the corner table by the window for the past few years and nothing has changed since then .
"More coffee?" My best (and only) friend Martha asked.
I merely nodded flipping the page. Martha worked at the coffee shop for five hours each day and sometimes three on the weekends.I have nothing better to do so I sit here and wait for her to end her shift which doesn't bother me , it gives me time to read.
"My shift is almost over!" She told me.
"Cool." I smiled and hid my face in the book again.
The workers and even manager know me from the moment I moved to New York City, I came straight here. It kinda went like this:
I walked into the coffee shop after arguing with my dad about forcing me to move. Which I had no problem with I just needed a reason to talk to him. Sad right? Anyways . I left the house with only my phone and book.I walked down the busy streets till I noticed this shop.I walked in and was greeted with a smile.
"Hello I'm Martha , what would you like?" She asked.
I took notice of her white toothy smile, her thin figure , black framed glasses ,her height (she wasn't the tallest), and her straight hair.
"Uh..just a black coffee" I said
She pouted her lips a bit and wrote it down. "Anything else?"
"Nope." I opened my book starting to read. I had thought I was being watched till I looked up and noticed she hadn't left.
"Yes?" I asked feeling self-conscious.
"You new?" She asked.
"Yeah? Is it obvious?" I asked.
"Well considering you didn't ask for a cookie..yeah.We have the best cookies which I'll gladly get you one."
"I-"
"On the house." She smiled butting in.
That day was the day I made my first friend. Since then, I continued to show up and get the same thing over and over. Yeah, I changed the order up sometimes, but I usually go back to my original black coffee with a chocolate chip cookie and to top it all off my book in hand.
"Question." She sat down.
"Shoot." I sat up.
"I'll ask later." She teased and stood up.
"I was reading!" I groan.
"Anything to get your head out of that book!" She called over her shoulder.
I rested back taking a sip of the cold coffee - go figure - and read another chapter.
About an hour later Martha had gathered her things and was ready to leave. Her shift is from four in the after noon to nine in the night, the only reason I'm here is because I walk her home.
"Okay! Question time." She told me.
"I'm all ears!" I faked enthusiasm.
She scowled and continued with her question, "Why do you always read the same book over?"
"Because." I stated bluntly.
"Because what?!" She pouted.
"Stop doing that face. It'll stay like that." I warned playfully.
She slapped my shoulder as we walked the now empty streets. Day time, the streets busy as can be. Night time, nothing..maybe a man or women walking trying to get home once in a while other-wise nothing much, but that's only where Sarah live because where I live is a different story.
"Why are you always walking me home?" she asked.
"well it's dangerous to walk home at night alone." I shrugged.
She looked at me with wide eyes and laughed saying, "And it's okay for you to walk home alone?"
I looked at her chuckling as she continued dramatically ," At night!"
"Yes." I stated rather bluntly.
"Wha-How..wait-Okay..." She stuttered.
"How is it okay for you to walk home at night, but I can't and I don't even live that far from the shop..you on the other hand do." She said.
"Well that the thing. If something happens to you..I'd lose it, but if something happens to me then I don't give a shit." I shrugged.
"What?! I care about you!" She pushed me playfully.
"I know. Thank you for that, but it's best to keep you safe." I walked her to her house.
As she went to the door she told me to run to my house or shall I say, "Run Like Hell."
"I'll keep that in mind." I waved walking home.
That's just the first look on my regular life.It was my senior year of school, five months before school is over when I met a very cocky yet some what appealing boy.
Little did I know that he would change my life forever.
That was two years ago. Today, I'm with a therapist were currently sitting in her office that's at the top floor of her building. She swept her curled bangs back and cleared her throat annoyed since I wasn't talking.
"So..what happened?" She asked.
"I fell in love once.." I stated.
Memories of a a familiar hazel eyed boy flashed through my mind.
She waited for me to continue so I let out a sigh and said in a rough and quiet voice,
"Obviously it didn't work out the way I wanted it too..."
