Amanda's P.O.V

"Ms.Green, please come in!" The principle smiled at me.

"Am I in trouble?" I asked.

For what possible reason would I be here?

"We have a new student joining us.  I believe tomorrow if that's correct , but he is from California so it might be a little hard for him to get use to everything." She told me.

"Okay? No disrespect, but I could care less about some kid." I leaned forward.

"Yeah about that." She smiled," I want you to show him around. Stick with him at all times and make sure he gets to class. When he is in class you come here. You are excused from all classes."

"Really..uh okay." I nodded.

"Alright now the bell is already gonna ring so you can just get a head start on your walk home I will inform you on everything tomorrow." She smiled.

I politely escorted myself and walked Martha's  classroom. The bell rang and people ran out of their class greeting their friends or just leaving.I calmly waited for Martha then she came out moments later laughing with a blonde girl I don't remember the name of and smiled at me.

"Bye! " She smiled at the girl then turned to me.

"Hi ." I smiled and walked with her down the halls to the front gate.

"Question." She said.

"Shoot." I turned to her as we walked towards her house.

"Why are you always at the coffee shop-not that I'm complaining, but why?" She asked.

"I have no life. Plus, I walk you home at night." I answered.

"I still don't like that you walk home alone at night." She told me.

"I don't like you walking home alone at night either." I walked with her inside her house.

"Hello Amanda!" Her mom greeted me.

"Hey Jen!" I hugged her.

"It scares me how formal you guys are together." Martha cringed while tugging me upstairs with her.

Martha changed into her work clothes while I looked at her books-which were useless teen magazines."I don't want to go to work!" She complained as I rolled my eyes at her and stood up.

"You kinda have to." I followed her out the house and to the coffee shop.

"The usual?" She asked as we started to part ways.

"Yes please." I smiled and left to my table.

I sat and buried my face in the book reading on.

What felt like a minute turned into ten and Martha  gave me my cookie and promised to bring my coffee after a costumer.I didn't mind, I basically eat for free here. I was brought out of my thoughts when I heard someone say,"What are you doing in my seat?"

I looked up at a dark haired boy around my age maybe a year older..who might I say was pretty attractive . His jaw line defined perfectly and his hazel eyes brought shame to my dark brown ones.

"I beg you're pardon?" I told him sitting up.

"This." He paused,"Is my seat."

I scoffed then let out a small laugh, who does this kid think he is saying this is his seat.

"What makes you think this is your seat? If anything this is my seat." I put my book down.

He looked at my book eyes widening a bit then narrowed them at me."I've sat in this same exact seat, served by the same waitress, everyday at this hour for five weeks now.I think it's safe to say that this is my seat."He smirked.

"Well, I've sat in this same exact seat for the pass four years, served by the same waitress, at four to closing time.I think it's safe to say that this is my seat." I mocked him.

"Alright." He said with a shrug.

"Thank you." I sighed and opened my book.

I waited to hear his footsteps fade, but to no avail so when I looked up I wasn't really surprise to see him still there. I was surprised to see him sitting in the seat across from me a nd being honest I didn't know how to react. He gave an innocent smile and read his book which was titled The Great Gatsby. A classic , how dare he!

"What are you doing?" I asked.

Martha came dropping my coffee off giving me a weird look since I don't let someone sit with me let alone talk to anyone-especially a boy.

"Hi Martha. " He gave her a charming smile.

"Hello James." She smiled and left giving me a thumbs up when out of his sight.

After she left we stayed silent staring each other down.I sat up saying,"So I'm gonna guess your name is James."

He chuckled sitting up as well replying with a smug smile, "you're correct."

I looked down at my book and decided to read it only to be interrupted again by this James character.

"And you are."

"None of your business." I snapped.

"Rude ." He chuckled opening his book.

"I'm not rude , I'm just naturally an asshole." I shrugged.

"Well, what's your name."

I sighed giving in, "Amanda."

"Green." He smiled.

My eyes widened and I leaned forward. How did he know my last name? In other words how am I not freaking out? I'm calm-cool- but taken aback.

"What?"

"Amanda Green."

"How do you know my last name?" I asked.

He chuckled and said," Guessed. It kinda suits you though."

"Um thanks." I said uncomfortably and went back into my book.

I decided to ignore James and read.It was only five minutes when I decided to drink my coffee and as I was about to take a sip, I noticed that my drink was half gone. I glanced down at my cookie and noticed that it as well was half gone.

"You ate my food." I mumbled in disbelief, keeping my eyes glued to my cookie.

"Yeah, your coffee's kinda cold though might need a new one." He sighed with a small smile.

"You ate my food." I repeated emotionless.

"Yes, I'm pretty sure I did."

I repeated my last comment and finally met his gaze.

He smiled at me and I felt...rather weird.

"Who does that?!" I gaped.

"What?" He asked.

"Who eats someone else's food?!" I picked up the half eaten cookie.

"Couples." He smirked.

"We are not a couple." I felt my cheeks heat up .

"Precisely!" He clapped his hands." Yet everyone else here is an original. They come for the coffee or the wifi and then see you here, alone."

"So when they notice your here with a guy- a rather good looking one might I add." He laughed.

I  let out a huff while rolling my eyes and listened to him continue.

"They see him eating a cookie. They think 'oh they're sharing food..they're together'."

What is he talking about, I feel like laughing.

"What?" I genuinely laughed.

For the first time in what felt like years .
