Veldora POV
As I walked down the path towards the city, I noticed a massive gate with a long line of people waiting to be accepted into the city. It reminded me of when Rimuru was heading to Ingrasia to meet the children entrusted to him by Shizu. Opting for a different line dedicated to adventurers, ours was considerably shorter. Both Lily and Amelia showed our IDs to the guard, who then inquired about me.
The guard eyed me suspiciously as I approached, my turn to face the scrutiny of the checkpoint. Lily and Amelia exchanged a quick glance, evidently unsure how to explain the presence of a child—or at least, one who appeared to be a child. I straightened my posture, trying to project an air of confidence that belied my youthful appearance.
Amelia hesitated before explaining, "This is Veldora, our companion."
The guard raised an eyebrow, clearly dissatisfied with the vague explanation. Lily attempted to offer more clarity, "Despite appearances, he's not a child. There's more to him than meets the eye."
The guard's skepticism lingered, prompting me to interject casually, "Just your average adventurer here. Don't let the youthful looks fool you; I'm more capable than I seem."
After a moment of contemplation, the guard reluctantly allowed us to pass, though a hint of doubt still lingered. As we stepped into the lively city, my eyes widened at the human architecture and the diverse crowd. The city before me bore a stark contrast to Tempest, the nation Rimuru had established. While it lacked the expansive size of Tempest, resembling more of a small village, its vertical sprawl with tall buildings gave it the appearance of a classic isekai city, complete with an adventurer's guild. This struck me as different from any place I had visited before. My experiences thus far had been limited to either the cities I had once destroyed or the one where I resided alongside Rimuru.
Strolling through the town, we eventually reached a sizable building that drew the attention of both Lily and Amelia. Following their lead, I stepped into the establishment, revealing an interior reminiscent of a miniature bar with a reception desk at the far end. Observing the girls as they approached the receptionist, I couldn't help but notice an uncharacteristic pallor on their faces, accompanied by beads of sweat, hinting at an underlying unease.
Amelia stammered nervously, presenting the completed quest to the receptionist.
Receptionist: "So, the two most useless girls within this guild actually killed a fire dragon. Don't lie to me, or do you want me to call the headmaster here?"
Lily, visibly shaken, responded, "No, we actually did it, I swear. Here, we even brought its scales with us."
Despite Lily's attempt to reassure the receptionist, her voice betrayed a sense of fear and unease, an unusual demeanor for someone as bold as she usually appeared.
Receptionist: "Fire dragon, my foot! You two couldn't even handle a baby wyvern. Stop wasting our time with your made-up stories."
The receptionist scoffed and rolled her eyes, clearly unimpressed by the claim.
Lily: "No, we really did defeat a fire dragon! Look, we brought its scales as proof."
Amelia handed over the red scales, but the receptionist remained skeptical.
Receptionist: "Probably bought those from the market. I bet you didn't even break a sweat. And who's this kid? Are you trying to play house in the guild now?"
Amelia and Lily exchanged uneasy glances, realizing that the guild members around them were starting to pay attention.
Lily: "No, we swear! This kid, Veldora, is a powerful ally. He helped us defeat the dragon."
