Nam-Ra watched them as she let them have their moment. Glancing at Sung-Hoon, who was already glancing at her. She placed her head on his shoulder and tried to focus on something else.
They both knew the rain was messing with their senses as it was hard for them to smell the humans their friends were. Hearing the first strike of thunder making them flinch and wince as their sensitive hearing had them listen to things at a greater volume.
Sung-Hoon ripped the bottom of his shirt before making ear pieces for her to use. Hearing the next lightning as it was more muffled for her and not so much for him. Covering his ears as he winced.
Cheong-San noticed their behavior as he wiped his eyes. Seeing the male cover his ears. It made him think of something.
Su-Hyeok got up as he asked Nam-Ra for the heated blanket. Once he got it, and thanked her, he moved on and made a small spot the group could use to take shelter in from the rain. It wasn't much but it was enough.
The group huddled together to stay warm and trying to catch some rest. Unaware of Cheong-San already forming a plan towards their escape. For now they used the cover to stay out of the rain.
"We should get going now." Cheong-San spoke up lightly.
"We can't go anywhere. The whole school is surrounded." On-Jo spoke.
"Yes but we can use the rain." He replied. Glancing at Nam-Ra and Sung-Hoon. "You two can feel it right?" He asked.
"Feel what?" Min-Jung asked as she glanced over after having calmed down.
"Our senses.." Sung-Hoon spoke up. "We can't smell you guys as much as we used to and our hearing picks up the thunder really loud. It keeps us still for a moment. It could be the same for the other zombies. They won't hear us if we move using the lightning." He spoke.
"We can use that and make our way to the hill behind the school and get out of here." Cheong-San continued. "We wouldn't have to fight back right away since it would be a group of them against us." He added.
Min-Jung listened before glancing up at Su-Hyeok. "What do you think?" She asked. She had been convinced by Cheong-San's plan and had a bit of hope left with what was said.
Su-Hyeok listened as she glanced down at her. Thinking about what to say. "Are you sure you can walk down the stairs with your leg?" He asked. A worried tone in his voice as he didn't want her to force herself.
"I think so." Min-Jung spoke lightly. The pain was still there and she didn't want to risk making any noise that would get them caught.
"We will have to partner up." Joon-Yeong spoke up. "To avoid losing anyone along the way and make sure that we all make it out alive." He continued. "We have to be alert and not leave anyone behind. We use the lighting to block our steps and freeze until the next lightning."
Cheong-San nodded in agreement as he glanced at them. He hoped they would agree with him and get going before it was too late for them. "What do you guys say?" He asked.
"I say we do it." Min-Jung spoke up. Getting up from the spot as she winced from her wound before calming down as she cleared her throat. "This is a once in a lifetime shot for us. We have no food or water up here. We won't know when the next thunderstorm will be."
Su-Hyeok listened before getting up as he nodded and agreed. "We should get moving. It might stop raining before we even come to agreement." He spoke as he walked to his girlfriend. "Ready to go?" He asked.
Min-Jung listened as she grabbed her bag, her bow, and arrows before nodding. "Ready." She lightly spoke. She was ready to leave the hell of their school behind before glancing at the others. "I'll team up with Su-Hyeok." She added. Holding the male's hand.
Cheong-San glanced between the two of them before nodding. Teaming up with On-Jo for the meantime. Glancing at the others.
Nam-Ra teamed up with Sung-Hoon as she felt his hand in hers before she even had time to ask him. She didn't mind though. Glancing at him as she held his hand back.
Hyo-Ryung glanced at Ji-Min, who was still upset, and held her hand. She saw Ji-Min as her friend and didn't want to leave her behind. Having a small smile when Ji-Min looked at her. Wanting to make her feel somewhat better but seeing Ji-Min's face was evident the female was tired of things.
Joon-Yeong and Woo-Jin partnered up together as they stood by one another and glanced at the others. Coming to terms with leaving the roof for good. It was a relief.
Dae-Su glanced at the others already having a partner as he glanced around. "I guess you're stuck with me Gyeong-Su." He pointed out.
"Fine but you better not say anything weird though." Gyeong-Su replied.
"What? I have never done such thing before. Trust me. You'll be the safest person here. I'm very strong."
Min-Jung listened to them as it helped lighten her mood just watching them be friends. It made her have a slight hope again. "Are you two done?" She asked lightly.
"Yeah." Gyeong-Su spoke as he held hands with Dae-Su. "Let's get out of here."
Cheong-San got to the front as he made sure to count them before pressing his hands together. "Once these doors open there is no coming back here. We make our own way to freedom. Please stick together." He spoke. Opening the door for them.
The staircase was dark and the sounds of the stuck zombies filling the halls. The blue tarp still there from earlier as they descended slowly and very quietly. Keeping their distance from the zombies before glancing down the hall. Waiting for the next lightning as they bolted down before slowing down when they knew the thunder had stopped.
Tiptoeing along the stairs and keeping their eyes on the halls and stairs for anyone coming their way. Going further down step by step. Taking their time as they were so close.
Su-Hyeok didn't make a sound but he took a few glances towards his girlfriend from time to time. Making sure that she was fine so far and that he wasn't moving too fast.
Min-Jung was trying her best to keep going. Bitting her lower lip with every step that she took as she handled it well. Ignoring the pain spreading from her leg as she quietly continued to follow the group. It felt like the wound was opening all over again.
Dae-Su helped her when she needed some help and let her squeeze his free hand as much as she wanted if the pain she felt got too bad. It was better than making any sound. Knowing they were almost close to the exit. Making sure that the zombies wouldn't hear them as he had some doubts himself if their plan would even work.
Gyeong-Su would give her small taps on the shoulder to keep her distracted from the pain. Making the taps random.
In a way both of them managed to keep her busy from it and she was thankful. It was better than dealing with it alone. She was thankful to have friends like them.
The freedom they longed for was just at their fingertips. Right past the doors to the outside. They were so close and they could feel it. Unaware of what was ahead of them from that point forward.
