"Excuse me, I need you to get off the plane please, we've arrived" I rubbed my eyes and saw a tall, blonde woman standing over me with her hand on my shoulder to wake me up.

"Oh, sorry" I said as I stood up. She smiled at me and moved out of the way so I could get past. She handed me my carry on bag and I smiled my thanx at her and got off of the plane. I hoped I hadn't been there for too long, my uncle would be worried.

I walked inside the airport to get the rest of my luggage. The airport was basically empty and my two bags were the only ones left. I was just glad they were still there. Two bags was all I had. Well, all I was allowed to bring anyways. Everything else was left behind. I put my bags onto a trolley and walked slowly out of the airport to see my uncle leaning on his car with his arms folded. He got up and gave me a sad smile when he saw me.

"Katie, so good to see you" He said as he walked over to me with his arms open to give me a hug.

"Uncle Ben, good to see you too" I said as I walked into his arms and hugged him tightly. He has always been very tall, he looked even taller when I was little and I always thought he was a giant. Nobody could replace the relationship I had with my dad, but I have always been close with my uncle. Until he moved here, to Brighton, but we still kept in touch. I don't think he was expecting to have me living with him but I knew he wouldn't mind. My older cousin, Jason, moved out a little while ago so there was room for me.

"Let's get these in the car shall we?" He said as he grabbed my bags and carrying them to the car. I stood there for a second  before grabbing my last bag and putting it in the car. He made a gesture for me to get into the car, but I hesistated a little. The memories of that night came back to me and once again I fought back the tears. I got a fright when my uncle put his hand on my shoulder.

"It's ok Kate" I nodded at him and gave him a fake smile before getting in the car and putting my seatbelt on immediatly. It's only been a month, it's ok for me to still be afraid to get into a car, well that's what I keep telling myself atleast.

We drove in silence. I didn't feel much for talking anyway.  My uncle's house was a bit far from the airport. I looked out the window, at the sights of Brighton. Much different from Dublin, I miss it terribly already but I would get used to living here. I looked out of the window the whole time, until we pulled up in front of a red brick house. My uncle parked next to, what I guessed was, my aun'ts car. Also red. I wasn't a car person so I don't know what kind of car it was. My uncle got out of the car and opened the boot where my bags were. I got out a little bit later and followed my uncle inside.

My aunt engulfed me in a hug as soon as I walked throught the door. She has always smelt like rosmary and she still does. I haven't seen my aunt and uncle or cousins in 3 years, and I've missed them terribly. I'm so glad I have them.

"Good to see you Katie" She said as she squeezed me a little tighter.

"You too, Liz" I said as I squeezed back. I heard my two little cousins calling my name and running from the other side of the house. I saw my cousins coming, with big smiles on their faces, and I knelt down so  I could hug them properly.

"Katie!"

"Jeremy!" I said as my cousin basically jumped into my arms.

"Wow you've gotten so big Jer! Remind me, how old are you now?"

"Seven!" He said with a big smile, and I smiled back at him. For the first time in a month I was smiling. I've never had any brothers or sisters, so that's how I see them. And they're all I have left.

"Sarah" I said with a huge smile as I turned to my other little cousin. She also basically jumped into my arms when I opened them up to hug her.

"Katie, I've missed you!"

"And I you, Sarah"

"I'm six now you know!"

"I know! Also so big" I said with a smile.

They ran off to play again soon after that, and I followed my aunt up to my new room. I put my bag down and looked around. Empty. Different. I sat down on the edge on the bed, in the middle of the room and let out a sigh.

"i know things are different, and it's going to be challenge for you Kate, but things will get better I promise" My aunt said as she walked over and sat down next to me on the bed.  "I miss your mum and dad terribly. I also wish I could have seen them one last time. I regret that. Three years and now they're gone" I looked over at my aunt and saw one tear fall down her cheek.

"I miss them too. I can't believe they're gone" I held back the tears a little but when my aunt engulfed me in her arms, I couldn't anymore.

We stayed like that for a while before she got up to cook dinner. "I'll leave you to unpack and get settled. Brighton is great, many good people here. In time, you'll warm up to it and be happy I know it" She said with a smile and walked out the door.

I musn't forget that I'm not the only one who lost someone. My aunt, uncle and cousins lost them too, even if they hadn't seen them in a while. And they miss them too, not only me.

I stood up to look around the medium sized room. I wasn't complaining, I'm happy to have this. It's different, but so is everything else right now. There was a chest of draws across from the bed, with a mirror above it. The cupboard was to the left of the bed and a window to the right. There were peach curtains draped to the side. It was getting late so I walked over to close them.

I sat on the bed just thinking for a while, with my feet on the wooden floor. I would unpack and get settled, just not yet.

Not yet.
