Chapter 15- Just In Case

Ben and I arrived at the studio and I decided to get out with him instead of sitting in the car alone with my thoughts. I sat at the reception desk and tried to keep myself busy while Ben did whatever he needed to do. I hadn't been to work here for a while and neither had Ben for these past few weeks, I wondered who sorted out everything while we both haven't been here. I was staring into the distance not really concentrating when I heard a familiar voice say something to me. 

"You're kind of in my seat" I looked up to see Eddie standing over me. "You're seat?" I gave him a questioning look. "Last time I checked I still worked here" I said to him even though I hadn't been here for a while but I hadn't thought Eddie would replace me but then again he kind of did whatever someone needed him to do here. 

"You haven't been here and Ben asked me to fill for a while. I'm sorry to hear about Conor" He said, smiling down sweetly at me. "Thank you" I said, getting up so that I could move out of his way. 

"How have things been with you though?" I asked, and I did care. I still felt bad about doing what I did to Eddie even though I couldn't be happier with Conor. Eddie will always be a good friend to me. "I've been good actually. A little upset for a while but I met this great girl and we've been going strong" He said, blushing a little as he said that. 

"That's really great to hear. I'm happy for you" I said, smiling genuinly because I really was happy for him. The situation between us seemed a little better now that he is happy with someone else. I hope it's someone who appreciates him for the great guy he is. 

"What are you doing here anyway? I would have thought you'd be at the hospital with Conor" Eddie asked curiously. "I was but his family wanted to spend some alone time with him, which I respect and understand. Ben just needed to do a few things before we head home" I explained and he nodded in understanding. 

"All done" Ben said, walking out of his office with a bunch of papers in his hand. "We're off Kate. Thank you again Eddie for covering everything. I'll be back to work soon" Ben said to Eddie and he nodded his understanding. I helped Ben with some of his papers and put them in the back seat of the car. We drove home in a comfortable silence and I went straight to my room, collapsing on my bed as we got home. 

*Ben's P.O.V* 

I sat down on the couch with a sigh. Liz came into the living room, handing me a beer as she sat down next to me. 

"I'm worried about her" I said to Liz, taking a sip. "So am I dear. Things were finally getting better and now this happens. She was happy and smiling and making the room look like her room. I'm scared of what will happen if this dear boy doesn't make it" Liz said, shaking her head. 

"Don't stress too much about it love, she's a strong girl and we both know she's been through a lot worse than this" I said and Liz nodded, resting her head on my shoulders. "But we should still keep a close eye on her Ben, just in case" She said.

"That's what I've been doing Liz. Taking her to the hospital and back all the time and staying with her while she's there" I said. "She appreciates it dear, she really does so it's not for nothing" Liz said

"Ofcourse it's not for nothing, it's to look out for her because she's our responsibility now Liz" I replied. 

"I know that Ben! I was just mentioning. I have to get dinner ready" Liz said, getting up but giving me a kiss on the cheek before leaving. She was always that way, never got mad at anyone for anything even when I was being a jerk. One of the many reasons I love her so much. 

 A few minutes later my phone started ringing. I leaned over to get it on the coffee table, the caller ID showed me it was the hospital. I felt my stomach twist as I answered. 

"Mr Evans?" A soft, female voice on the other line asked. "Yes, this is he" I replied. "I thought I should let you know that Conor is awake, and he's asking for Kate" The female voice said. I told her my thanks and practically ran up the stairs to tell Kate the news. 

"Kate?" I knocked on her door, going inside after the second knock. She was lying in her bed and looked up as I entered the room. "Conor is awake, and he's asking for you" I said and she jumped out of Bed as soon as I'd said it. 

*Kate's P.O.V*

I was lying in bed doing nothing when Ben knocked on my door and came into my room. "Conor is awake, and he's asking for you" He said and I jumped out of bed grabbing my jacket and rushing down stairs with Ben ahead of me. 

"Where are you going?" Liz asked confused as she stood in the kitchen. "Conor's awake. We're going to see him at the hospital" I replied and followed Ben into the car. We didn't say anything on the way there. All my thoughts were on Conor and that hopefully he's fine and won't be going back into a coma anytime soon. I practically ran out of the car to get to Conor's room with Ben close behind me. I walked into the room, standing by the door frame for a bit to try and catch my breath. Conor's mum, dad and sister were surronding him with smiles on their faces and I took that as an excellent sign. They all looked at me as I entered the room and then made way so that Conor and I could see each other. As soon as his eyes met mine his face lit up, 

I walked over and threw my arms around while still trying to be gentle because he might still be in pain. I squeezed him a little and he squeezed me back, giving me a kiss on the cheek. A few tears fell onto his shirt and he wiped them away with his thumb alough they were happy tears. 

"I'm so sorry" I said and he knew what I meant. "I'm sorry too. So so sorry Kate." 

"It's fine. Everything is fine now" I said, more tears falling onto Conor's shirt although he didn't mind, I didn't want to think about what happened at the house, the club or the accident ever again. I was just glad Conor was okay I didn't care about anything else in this moment. 

"Conor has made a good recovery and will continue to do so but we're going to keep him here a few more days just in case" The doctor said to everyone in the room and we all nodded our heads and mumbled our thanks. We were all just so glad Conor was okay. Even Ben.
