I had been busy sorting out a few things for my uncle I didn't notice how late it was getting. I rushed to get ready because Eddie would be here soon. I put on a pair of jeans and a lace shirt. I let my hair hang loose and I put on a bit of makeup. I heard a knock on my door and saw my aunt poke her head in as I was finishing up.
"Your date is here. He's cute, and he brought flowers isn't that so sweet" My aunt said to me as she came inside.
"Yeah, really sweet" I said to her. Him bringing flowers just made me feel worse for doing this to him. He was getting what he wanted, to go on a date with me, but I haven't been able to stop thinking about Conor and that he phoned me. I would try and be a good date but I wasn't really excited about going on a date with him. I was just using him to get over someone else.
"Are you excited?" She asked me.
"Yeah" I said and smiled at her,but she gave me that knowing look. I guess she knows me better than I thought.
"Ok" She said as she let out a sigh and we walked down to the living room together.
"You look great" Eddie said as I walked into the room.
"Thanx" I said to him.
"Let's go" Eddie said and he put his hand on my shoulder as he led me out of the house and into his car. We drove to the movies in silence and I felt bad for not having anything to say to him. I guess we really didn't have that much in common.
"So what movie are we seeing?" I asked him to break the silence.
"Oh yeah, about that. The movies don't look that interesting so I made us dinner reservations instead" He said and he looked over and smiled at me.
"Oh...Okay" I said. I would have prefered to sit through a movie because then we wouldn't have to do so much talking. But I'm just going to suck it up because Eddie looks really happy to be having dinner with me and he looks really cute when he smiles at me like that.
"Reservation for Eddie" Eddie said as we stood in front of the restaurant while the host checked the reservation.
"Ah yes, table for two. This way" The host said as he pointed to a waiter who showed us to our table. The restaurant was small but fancy. Chandeliers handing from the ceiling and silk, white table cloths on the tables. There was extra light from the candles in the centre of the tables. It all looked great. Our table was at the back in a corner and I sat facing the entrance.
"I thought a bit of privacy and quiet would be better" Eddie said as he pulled out my chair and gestured for me to sit down. I looked at the menu, and everything sounded fancy and expensive. I looked up at Eddie and he smiled at me.
Then, out of the corner of my eye, I saw him. Conor waiting at the entrance to be taken to a table. I looked at him for a little while, waiting for his girlfriend to join him, but she didn't. Maybe she would come later. Conor went to his table, which was on the other side of the restaurant but also in the corner. His eyes were wandering and they landed on me. I looked down at my menu quickly but I knew he knew it was me.
I looked down asking myself why he's always in the same place that I am. How is it that he and I are here together just like the other day when again I was with Eddie. I looked at him again and saw him looking at me. I looked away quickly again.
"So, have you lived in Brighton all your life?" I asked Eddie, trying to start a conversation so that I could keep my mind off of Conor.
"Yeah. Haven't even been out of the country. But I have plans" Eddie said.
"Oh yeah, like what?" I asked Eddie but I wasn't really concentrating because again I was looking at Conor, and he at me but this time neither of us looked away. I couldn't help myself, I don't know why but I really liked Conor and I had butterflies in my stomach whenever I looked at him. I thought to myself how handsome he looked. I thought of when I heard him sing and I knew the longer we looked at each other the harder I was falling.
