"Jennie , does it always take you this long to get dressed?"

A disgruntled face framed by chocolate curls peeked out from the open wardrobe. Jennie squinted at the woman sitting on the bed.

"Mum, it's only been twenty minutes. Don't be so dramatic. Besides, for your information, I'm doing more than just getting dressed."

"Whatever you say, dear, because as far as I can see,"  Seo-young waved her hand towards her daughter's body parts visible from the wardrobe, who was only wearing a set of crimson underwear.  "You really aren't dressed yet."

Jennie exhaled sharply, causing a few strands that had fallen over her face to fly apart.

"I'd probably be done by now if you hadn't distracted me every few seconds with questions about how the date went."

The girl ducked back into the bowels of the wardrobe, and Seo Yeong hummed and looked at herself in the mirror. She fixed a few loose strands out of her hair and was satisfied with her appearance.

"By the way,"  she said.  "When is Jisoo coming?"

"Soon," came the muffled reply. The three of them were going to see a Broadway show tonight.

"Thanks for clarifying, dear,"  the older Kim said nonchalantly.

Finally finding everything she needed in the wardrobe, Jennie dressed and paraded proudly in front of her mother. She wore a tight black dress and red high-heeled shoes. Her lips were painted with the same bright red lipstick that made the girl look so damn attractive. Her hair, slightly curled at the edges, favourably emphasised her olive skinned face.

Even as a child, Jennie liked to throw her own and her mother's clothes on the bed and dress up in them, though Cora's clothes were clearly too big for her then. But that didn't bother the girl in the least. She dressed up, did her hair and make-up with the help of tubes and jars she took from her mum, and then organised mini fashion shows for Seo Yeong . Little Jennie imagined that the carpet was a catwalk. She would walk proudly down it, freezing in various poses that she had seen in fashion magazines, and Seo Yeong would applaud and compliment her, even if sometimes the outfits weren't very well chosen.

Now, for a moment, Seo Yeong was looking at her daughter, immersed in such pleasant memories.

"It's flawless, my dear. Just flawless,"  she summed up sincerely.

Jennie laughed softly, losing all her importance. She walked over and left a soft kiss on the older woman's cheek, then wiped away the traces of her lipstick with her thumb. Jennie then walked over to the dresser in search of suitable jewellery.

"Are Daddy and Sam going to the museum?"  She asked, putting on the earrings.

"That's what your father planned,"  So-young giggled.  "But I think they'll be in a lot of places before we get back from the show."

Before Jennie could answer, the sound of the front door slamming shut echoed through the house. The sound of heels clacking on tile. Both mother and daughter turned at the same time to see Jisoo standing on the doorstep. She was smiling broadly, but Jennie 's eyes widened in surprise.

"How did you do it?" She asked Seo Yeong admiringly. " Is she really ready to go out on time?"

Seo Yeong laughed, and Jennie rolled her eyes. She quickly grabbed a small hairbrush and threw it at her friend, but she deftly dodged it, laughing loudly.

"You should be thankful you were even invited tonight," the younger Kim hissed, glaring at the brunette.

"What did I do?" Jisoo asked, still laughing.
