The girls exchanged glances once more before Lisa lowered her head and, closing her eyes, began playing a random tune.
Lisa's fingers easily slid along the strings. The girl's skill fascinated Jennie. Her dark brown eyes incessantly followed the girl's fingers, which barely touched the strings. But it was even more interesting to watch the blonde's face; it had an expression of calm and bliss. Manobal was completely immersed in her music, and Jennie thought she had never seen Lisa so beautiful. Even the bruise on her forehead did not spoil the girl.
The student's head bobbed to the beat of the music. One melody smoothly transitioned into another. The girl played passages that spontaneously came to mind, allowing herself to get lost in the sounds of the guitar.
She played until the muscles completely relaxed, the pain subsided, and the tormenting voices in her head died down. Heart beat to the beat of the music slowly, calmly, like a lullaby.
And at that moment, Jennie's heart was beating a completely different rhythm. Her lips were slightly parted, her hands were clenched into fists on her knees, and the longer Lisa played, the faster her heart beat in her chest. Jennie felt the pressure build up in every cell of her body: her ears were blocked, her throat was dry, goosebumps ran down her spine, and warmth spread in her lower abdomen...
She couldn't remember the last time she cared so much about someone. And the more Jennie tried to convince herself otherwise, the more she was drawn to the girl opposite. Kim was so immersed in her thoughts that she did not notice how the music died down.
"Jennie?"
The sound of her name quickly brought the brunette back to reality. Raising her gaze, she was lost in the emerald eyes that burned brightly in the twilight of the room. Lisa's hands were folded on the guitar, from which gentle melodies no longer flowed, a light smile played on the girl's lips.
" Yes?" Jennie whispered hoarsely and cleared her throat. "Yes," she repeated more clearly. "Sorry. I lost myself in your music. You play so beautifully. That was incredible. Thank you for sharing this magic with me."
Blushing deeply at these words, Lisa bowed her head a little and shrugged.
"My pleasure, I like to play."
"Yes," Jennie repeated quietly. "I see. You looked so peaceful when you played."
Lisa nodded and ran her hand over the guitar.
" Right. There's something about the game that calms me down. All the voices in my head fall silent, it's like I'm freeing myself from everything. The only thing that makes sense at such moments is music, you know?"
Without waiting for an answer, Lisa got up from the sofa and, going to the wall, hung the guitar in its place.
"So," the girl continued, returning to the sofa and this time sitting down much closer to the brunette. "How terrible was your date this time?"
Hearing the question, the butterflies in Jennie's stomach immediately stopped flying and died altogether. Panic arose deep inside, desperately penetrating into every cell. Jennie didn't want to lie to Lisa. The date with Alex wasn't terrible at all, quite the contrary. But I didn't want to tell the truth either. There was no need for Manobal to know that Jennie, like a teenager, realizing her feelings, ran away from the date to her friend to complain about her lack of experience in relationships with girls and to realize her feelings for the nanny. At the same time, Jennie didn't want Lisa to think that Jennie enjoyed the date. God forbid, Manobal becomes jealous. Jennie only wanted one person, and that person was sitting next to her now.
How confusing everything was.
"Wow," Manobal laughed. "Can't even answer? It must be really terrible."
