Love Lindy

Chapter Three

~~

Levi rubbed his neck as he sighed heavily; it felt as though someone had punched him in the gut. Lindy didn't like him, she never would and he was a complete idiot to have thought otherwise. He knocked on Nathan's door. If he could talk to anyone about this it was him.

"Levi" Nathan said when he opened the door "How did tonight go?"

"Well pretty bad I'd say. I somehow said that I would help her get you too court her."

"Levi you told her what?"

"She likes you, I was caught off guard. I said I would help her... It's extra time to spend with her; maybe she'll change her mind?"

"Levi I am not going to court your woman." Nathan said holding up his hands "Why didn't you tell her then. Just tell her 'Lindy I am in love with you' and perhaps kiss her. But don't help her get someone else!"

"Nathan you don't know her like I do-"

"I know you, and I know you are completely in love with this girl. Be a man, tell her how you feel."

"I'm going to laugh if you're ever in this situation. It's not that easy."

"Levi" Nathan said frustrated "I don't think this is a good idea."

"Nate just think about it... just one dinner and if it goes badly she'll no longer like you."

"I can't believe I'm agreeing to this.... But Lee you've got to tell her how you feel."

"I will." Levi agreed.

"Soon?" Nathan probed

"Yes."

Lindy smiled as she walked into the newly painted white building that read Jasper and Adams attorneys at law.

She looked around the small room her eyes immediately met Levi's. He seemed serious his usual smile wasn't on his face but his eyes still sparkled when he looked at her.

"Levi" Lindy said "Can I talk to you? Alone."

"Yes of course." he said getting up from his desk. She followed him outside onto the board walk.

"What's wrong?" He asked "Did you come in town alone?"

"No I came in with my Papa and Joseph they're in the mercantile. I wanted to say sorry for the other night." Lindy said grabbing his arm.

"You've got nothing to apologize for Lindy."

"Yes I do... I obviously upset you; I don't want us to ever not be friends" She let go of his arm realizing it might look improper if someone saw them "I don't want you to be mad at me."

She looked at him wondering what he was thinking, his jaw clinched as he looked at her.

"I'm not mad at you Lindy... in fact I got you a dinner date with Nathan."

"What?" Lindy said caught off guard.

"Yes... next Friday."

"Thank you Levi." She said a smiled lighting her face "Will you help me get ready I mean I-I've never had a dinner with someone alone... will you chaperone?"

"Chaperone?" Levi said slowly, she wondered why he acted so nice at times and so weird at others.

"Yes please Levi!"

"Alright... what do you mean by getting ready?"

"Well I thought we could have a practice dinner... you could act like you were my date and then tell me what I do wrong."
