Chapter Seven
~~
"Ma'am I'm going to have to ask you to leave-"
Lindy glared at the old man Dr. Jennings "I am not leaving my husband Sir." she said fibbing, she knew the old man would never let her stay if she told the truth about their relationship.
"And I am not leaving my brother!" Mahailey said getting up and standing next to Lindy. The man glared right back; his beady green eyes looked from Lindy to Mahailey.
"I don't run a boardinghouse."
"I am aware of that" Lindy said looking back at Levi's sleeping form "I can't leave him sir... I need to be by his side when he wakes up."
Dr. Jennings looked at her as if she were a lunatic "He may never wake up Miss-"
"It's Mrs. Jasper, and I know Levi... He always comes back to me."
"Mrs. Jasper you need to face the facts- He may not wake up."
"Then you and I will have to become friends, because I don't intend on leaving my husband."
The old doctor nodded and left the room mumbling "Women are as stubborn as mules."

Lindy sighed, she had been in the clinic for days- maybe even weeks- she had lost track. She only left Levi's side to use the outhouse and to get a little sleep in the tent Mahailey and Martin had sat up for her. The 'Hotel' had turned out to be more of a shack than anything else. So Martin and Nathan had set up the white tents for them.
She moved her hair as she sat next Levi. She looked a mess she was sure, she hadn't bathed in a few days and her hair had been even more uncontrollable lately.
She bit her lip as she looked at Levi. He still was in the same condition as when she got here. She on the other hand was far worse. She hadn't gotten much sleep. She had bruise like bags under her eyes to prove it. Nathan sat in a chair on the other side of the bed he had been reading short stories from his book The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes.
She liked the mystery in the stories, and she liked the characters, her favorite was of course the brilliant Sherlock Holmes. The way his mind worked was amazing.
"Alright Levi, we are now on your favorite story 'The Adventure of the Speckled Band'" He said opening the book. Lindy wished Levi was awake to listen to it.
They had just gotten to the part where Holmes and Watson were going to sneak into Helen Stoner's bedroom without her stepfather's knowledge, when Lindy heard a commotion at the front of the very small clinic. Her eyes were wide as she looked over to Nathan.
"Wait here and I'll go see what's the matter." Nathan told her as he got up leaving the blue book on his chair. Lindy nodded and edged closer to Levi. She heard the familiar chuckle of her father as he made his way into the room, with her Uncle Daniel not far behind.
"Papa! Uncle Daniel! What are you two doing here?" She asked getting up to hug both men.
"Making the Doctor angry" Daniel answered laughing "I told him I've come to check on my patient."
"We wired Dan as soon as you left. He came as quickly as he could... and your mother wanted me to make sure you were doing alright." Her father told her putting his arm around her shoulder.
"I'm so glad you've came Uncle Dan... are you going to check on him?"
"Yes Ma'am" Daniel said sitting his medical bag down. Nathan came into the room with his left eye brow raised.
