Love Lindy
Chapter Twelve
~~
"Lindy will you and Arrie go help with lunch? Lucas he's the cook he mentioned he could use a hand." Lindy's Aunt December said once she found them in the library with a few of the children, in the home for children there we're around thirty children from the ages eight to eighteen, after they turned eighteen they could stay and help as a paid member of the staff or they could go to college. December never kicked a child out though she made sure they had a better future then a lot of orphanages did.
"Yes Mama." Ariel answered for them both as she took Lindy's arm and lead her to the kitchen once they were out of ear shot she turned to her "Lucas was a child here since he was about thirteen, now he's the cook, it's quite funny seeing a man in the kitchen but he has a knack for it."
"Do you like him?" Lindy asked with a smile.
"No he's like a brother." Ariel said seriously.
"Did you really love Abilene's Beau?"
"I liked him; it was kind of a puppy love I guess I mean we kind of grew up together and all."
Lindy's eyes widen a bit, surely what she felt wasn't puppy love as Ariel had put it... was it? Her situation was so close to Ariel's
"Lucas! Mama said you needed help." Ariel said as they walked through swinging doors into the large kitchen.
"Yes I'm making Lunch which will be fried chicken and biskets. And I need help with supper and desert, for supper it'll be a vegetable and meat soup and for desert I was thinking pie or cake."
"Alright we'll help, Lindy would you like to cut up vegetables or would you prefer to make a pie crust?"
Lindy blushed, she had never cooked before but she had cut up vegetables "I'll slice the Vegetables." She said quietly.
"Alright and I'll make some pie crusts... Lucas should I make apple pie?"
"Sure the kids will love that."
Lucas turned to Lindy with, his hair was a pale blonde and his eyes were dark green "Your cousin is famous for her pies" he said smiling towards Ariel "All the children can tell when she made them, they just love it. But she will never tell me her secret ingredient. Perhaps you can get it out of her and report back to me?"
Lindy smiled at that. Lucas was very nice and she instantly liked him.
"Luke I've told you, I make my pies with love that's the secret ingredient." Ariel said jokingly.
"Alright" Lucas said with a laugh "I make my pies with love how come they never taste as good as yours?"
Ariel just laughed at that one and turned back to the counter she had gathered all her ingredients on.
Lindy busied herself with cutting up the vegetables once she was done she turned to Ariel who had already made three pie crusts.
"I'm done..." Lindy said quietly.
"Wash your hands and then come over here you can help me roll the crusts into the pans."
"Thanks for the help Miss Lindy, Miss Ariel."
"You're welcome." Lindy said in unison with Ariel causing all three of them to laugh. She could get used to living and working here. It was nice to feel as though she was doing something useful. And perhaps Ariel would teach her too cook while she was there.
