Chapter Four

~~

Nathan reread the letter he wrote to his only sibling.

My dear sister,

I hope all is well with you. I am sorry for the lack of communication between us over the years.

I am in a small growing town called Hope Blossoms in Wyoming. I've started a practice with my best friend from college. And we've both recently took on our first cases in Wyoming Territory.

I would like for you to come visit on your next school break, just tell me when and I'll send you tickets. I would like to get the chance to know you Nettie. Perhaps I could even tell you stories of Mother as I'm sure Father never told you anything about her.  I look forward to your reply

all my love

Nathan

It was a short letter but it was a start. He just hoped she didn't hate him. As they've had no contact since he left for college and she left for boarding school. She would be fourteen now. And from the very few letters he had received from his father, she was quite smart. She finished her high school education early and was now away at finishing school.

It didn't surprise him that his sister was treated the same as he was, their father acted as though he never wanted children, pushing them into boarding school. And before they were old enough he would have the governess care for them.

His mother was somewhat the same, although she was a bit more caring. He still remembered when she died; he had got a letter sent to him at the boarding school he had been attending. It had been simple as if it was discussing the weather.

Nathan,

your mother had died of childbirth. I'll send for you so you can attend her funeral and meet your baby sister Annette Natalie Adams.

Your Father

Xavier

He still remembered crying for days after he had got the letter. His mother had a hard time having children, as he had two brothers who died only days after their birth.

The last one must have just done her in. he still remembered holding his small baby sister, her hair was the same color as his. And as she grew she had a beautiful eye color of dark purple.

"Nate" Levi said bringing him from his thoughts "I'm going down to the mercantile, do you need anything?"

"Could you mail this for me?" he asked handing him the envelope he had already sealed and addressed.

"Sure." he said walking out of the building. He was glad he had him as a friend; he often wished he could have the attitude Levi seemed to have about life. He was often smiling, and even though he had a hard time when his parents died, but he seemed to be better now.

He sighed walking over to the window. He wanted to have a family someday, but would that ever happen? He doubted it. Just as well though. He liked being alone.

He thought about his upcoming dinner with Lindy, she was a nice girl; she was incredibly beautiful but also very obtuse. He could tell she had feelings for Levi; it was just the way her gaze always found his. Although it seemed everyone knew except for Levi and Lindy.

He would happily court Lindy if his best friend wasn't in love with her. But since he was, he would make the dinner boring make her somehow see she was in love with Levi.

After all he owed it too Levi, he was his only friend threw most of college. No one else had even taken the time to say hello. He would get the two together.
