Tom

When I woke up, for the fourth time that night, the sun was rising in the sky.
I took my phone and looked at the time: 6 a.m.
It was still early and I wanted to go back to sleep, but I couldn't.
I kept on turning around in the bed all night, since my thoughts kept me up for hours, therefore I managed to only get four hours of sleep in total.
I looked to my left and watched as Pearl was still deep in her sleep, heavy sighs coming out of her mouth and her arm still wrapped around my chest.
I smiled and slowly dragged her closer to me, brushing her hair with my fingers, - that was one of the reasons why I couldn't sleep, I didn't want to miss any of those moments by closing my eyes.
When we were like this, - happy, at peace, - I could've almost forgotten about everything else, almost.
Truth was that whatever was going to happen between me and her, whether we wanted to forget about the past or not, I would've left and go back to L.A. in about a month, and I was sure Pearl wouldn't have followed me.
We were living a fantasy, indeed, but fantasy is always better than reality, - I had learned that the hard way.

I stood still, caressing her and staring at the ceiling as I tried to fall back asleep, until her phone lit up and a message notification caught my attention.
I knew I shouldn't have gone through her phone, but curiosity won over rationally and I took her phone in my hands, reading the message from, - of course, - fucking Alec.

'Hey princess', he already ruined my day.
'I'm hosting a match tonight, might even compete myself, it's been a while. Swing by if you can', the message read.

I stared at the screen for a few minutes, but my mind was made up as soon as I read the word match.
Perhaps there was a more realistic way of solving this whole Pearl-Alec situation, and to get him out of my way once and for all.
It wasn't going to be a long term solution for us, but at least I could've get this anger towards him out of my system.
Pearl had told me and her and Alec hadn't been sleeping together for quite long before I had gotten here, but that didn't mean that he was going to stop trying, which angered me in a way I wasn't sure I could control anymore.

Still with her phone in my hand, I took my own phone and copied Alec's number; then, I messaged him from my own phone.

'Hey Alec, this is Tom. I heard about your match tonight, how about we two have our own?', I typed, and waited until he responded.

'Thought you never asked', he replied.

With a satisfied smile on my lips, I put both mine and Pearl's phone on the nightstand and carefully stood up from the bed to walk to the kitchen.
I made a cup of coffee and sipped it as I sat on the couch and looked at the clouds outside.

It was a beautiful day, good enough to show Alec, - and Pearl-, who she really belong to, and that I could make her mine whenever I wanted.

Pearl

I slowly opened my eyes and stretched my arms and legs.
I touched the bed next to me, but Tom wasn't laying there, nor was he in the room.

'Tom?', I called him, sitting straight on the bed.
Part of me was pretty sure he had already left, but the other part wished he had stayed.
When he didn't reply, though, I stood up and got out of the bedroom.
He wasn't in the living room, kitchen, or balcony, - he left.

Sighing, I turned back around and opened the bathroom's door, where I saw him standing in front of the mirror with a pair of sweatpants, no shirt and wet skin.

'Oh', I exclaimed, fully stepping into the room and closing the door behind me.
'I thought you left.'

He moved his gaze from the mirror to me with a tired smile on his face, as he stretched his arm out and put it on my waist, pulling me closer to me.
