"kiss and tell. want to tell me what that's about?" My mother questions me

I sit on the sofa, head down listening to her lecture me

"DID YOU KISS HIM AURELIA?" she shouts pushing my shoulder so I was eye to eye with her

"n-no mother..I didn't" I lie

"What a daughter I have. kissing a boy from one of the scum districts. I am appalled." she looks at me "you're disgusting. wearing his dirty coat" she gives me a dirty look before pushing me onto the floor, my head slamming straight into the wooden floor panels as I groan

"That district boy doesn't love you, you think he does? He probably has some girlfriend from back home. Just using you so you would get him out that arena alive..I cannot believe a daughter of mine would fall for his tricks" she scoffs before kicking the side of my stomach as

she starts to speak again but this time in a more enthusiastic tone "Mr. ravinstill, you know the president! he proposed for his son and you to get married by the way! here's the ring!" she kneels placing it on my finger

what is she doing? I'm on the floor and she's telling me about marriage? what! this is ludicrous, I'm not getting married to felix—not happening, never happening!

She scoffs at me unable to respond her heel jabbing my rib as I start to feel light headed and warm as my eyelids get heavy and I pass out

𝐈 𝐖𝐀𝐊𝐄 𝐔𝐏 and I look around me, capitol hospital..how on earth did I end up here?
I try to sit up before letting out a loud groan as my side hurts like hell

I lift up a part of my shirt to see a bandage with blood seeping through some parts

"your mother almost broke your rib cage when she kicked you" I look up to see vhera as I smile

"vhera!" I say as she walks towards me and inspects the wound

"hey darling..saw your tributes interview today" she smirks as I blush

"he seems nice..wearing his jacket aswell?" she smiles at me "never seen you this interested in a boy" she teases as I sigh

"wanna see him?" I look up and nod

She grabs her keys as I jump out of my bed "ouch, stomach still hurts" I frown

"come on, capitol zoo is just round the corner" she says as we both get into her car

As she turns the wheel and parks across the road she hands me a bag, "some food for the boy.. he's fine with pasta right?" I nod as I walk towards the gates of the zoo sliding some money to the peacekeeper as he lets me in

If I have to give money to these guys everytime, I'm going to go broke

It was dark so I walk trying to be quite before some animal started screaming—I walk past some cute turtles before arriving around the corner of the monkey cage, no one could see me yet but I had full view of them

"so you seem so iNlOvE with that capitol aren't you lumberjack" I pause before listening to their conversation, the girl I recognise as coral

"i'm not." he says coldly

"really? kIsS aNd TeLl, bro you have her wrapped around your finger." she says laughing

"don't even like her. fuckin hate her. Just need to win and get the hell outta here" Treech says as I purse my lips, was what my mother said..the truth?

"you don't want her, i'll take her. Cant lie treech if she was my mentor i'd make her mine so quick, she's so fine." the guy from six says

"take her. I don't want her, always coming here with food she's so clingy" he laughs as tears threaten to fall out my eyes, it really was just a big play for him?

I mean..atleast—I thought we would be friends but he thought that I was no more than a girl who he needed to leave him alone, I look at the bag of food in my hand, I still cared for him..even if he didn't for me, I took a breath and wiped away my tears before coming into full view of the tributes as they stare at me in shock

I drop the bag of food in the bars next to treech as he quickly stands up

"aurelia—no wait let me explain, you don't understand" he starts to ramble as I shake my head

"nothing to explain, I heard everything."
