KAIA'S POV

I woke up without someone hugging me. Hindi naman siguro ako nananaginip kaninang madaling araw na yakap yakap ako ni Yra, right?

It's not that I'm expecting Yra will still be here lying next to me and waking up beside her. Mas mabuti ngang nauna na siyang nagising at lumabas ng kwarto baka kasi kapag naabutan kami ni Daddy or ni Nanay Cla at ng iba pang katulong na sabay lumabas ng kwarto ay iba ang isipin nila. Si Yra kasi ang kulit kaninang madaling araw.

I went inside my bathroom to take a bath and fixed myself before going downstairs.

Naabutan ko naman si Daddy sa dining table, sipping his coffee with an Ipad in his hand and a newspaper on the table.

Lumapit ako dito at hinalikan siya sa cheeks pero napakunot ang noo ko ng mabasa ang nasa newspaper.

"Sen. Clyden Fallon did not file Candidacy for the 2023 Senatorial Election." My eyes widened at napatingin ako my Daddy.

Yesterday was the day of filing candidacy but Dad didn't do it?

"What's the meaning of this?" Turo ko sa newspaper. Alam ko naman na ang ibig sabihin nun, but I can't believe it. Does it mean he backed out from running for Senator this year?

He just smiled at me.

"Is there any problem or issue?" I asked, just hope that it wasn't because of Mom again.

Noon kasi nagkaroon ng doubt ang mga tao na iboto si Daddy for Senator dahil sa issue na paghihiwalay nila ni Mommy. Muntik na rin nga siya noon umatras but he cleared all the issues and still won the past election. Mas marami pa kasing mga tao ang naniniwala sa kanya, lalo na ang mga taong nabigyan niya ng trabaho sa wine company or in the wineries as well as sa mga charities na natulungan niya and a lot more.

He never failed the people, he continues to help not because it's mandatory o para lang magpasikat. He helps because that's what my Daddy wants, to help as long as he can. Para sa rights and welfare ng mga tao, mga batas na makakatulong para sa lahat.

"It was my choice. I just thought na kailangan ko nang bumitaw sa pwesto. But it doesn't mean na bibitaw na rin ako sa mga tungkulin ko lalo na ang tulungan ang mga kailangang tulungan. Also, maybe it's time to help you in your business. Napansin ko kasi na hindi ka na ganun nagkakaroon ng oras para sa sarili mo dahil sa trabaho. I want to spend more time with you as well." He explained

I don't know how to react. Kahit naman na Senator si Dad hindi siya nagkulang sa akin o kaya hindi niya napapabayaan ang trabaho niya sa wine company.

I know that from the very first start I never wanted him to be in politics. It's just that, Daddy doesn't want to disappoint my grandfather who became Senator before for how many years at gusto niya na sundan ni Daddy ang yapak niya. That's why Daddy did it, before pa naman mawala si Grandpa. At first naging Mayor muna siya, and then a lot of things happened hanggang sa tumakbo na siya sa mataas na posisyon.

And now, he decided not to run anymore.

"Come on, don't worry about me. I won't regret my decision. Magkakaroon nga lang ng maraming paliwanagan and more new issues. Baka nga bumalik ulit ang issue noon tungkol sa amin ng Mommy mo, but I got this one. I will wholeheartedly explain everything. Alam kong marami ring malulungkot o madidisappoint sa desisyon kong ito, but I'll make them understand."

"Why didn't you tell me about this sooner?"

"Babawiin ko ba dapat?"

I shook my head. "Dad, I will support you whatever decision you make. I should be happy now that finally hindi kana tatakbo ulit." I smiled and hugged him. "I guess, reported were outside the village?" I added.
