Stella's outfit for the party :)
——

Sarah and I went back to Ryan's to get ready for the Carrera's anniversary party. I don't think I've felt this put together since Midsummers. Using the money that our dad gifted us earlier that day, Sarah and I went out on the town and bought new outfits for tonight. From a local boutique on the boardwalk, Sarah chose a yellow sundress and I chose a teal and white two-piece set.

The two of us stand in the guest bathroom, pampering ourselves. Neither of us say much. I think we are both a little nervous about Ward being back, our boyfriends, and the thought that we would be putting ourselves back out in public for the first time since we got back from the island.

Sarah tossed her curled hair behind her shoulder and she turned to face me. I look back at her as I am braiding small sections of my naturally waved hair randomly.

Ryan had left to go do something at his dad's company office in Charleston once more, but he said he would meet up with us at the party later. I find it a little suspicious that he never really told me the reason he came home, but I'm sure that it means something about his family since he is 18 now. Will probably has him running errands.

Kie's parents agreed to let her come pick us up so that the two of us weren't trekking all the way across the island. She pulled up in her little green SUV that she's always had. The brown-haired girl left her hair naturally curly per usual, but braided small sections in the front and pinned them back. Giant, gold hoop earrings hung from her head, multi-colored necklaces are layered around her neck, and she paired a striped, low-cut tank top with a jean skirt.

The two of us greeted her warmly when we got in the car and Sarah quickly got to work filling her in on everything that happened since she saw her at the Island Restaurant this morning. Kie was dumbfounded when she heard that our father was back. So dumbfounded that she was still talking about it when we arrived to the Wreck.

"I mean, that doesn't even make sense. Ward's on this island? Like, the same island we are on?" The girl leads us over to an empty table out on the lawn where everyone is gathered. A cover band plays a classic rock song and the atmosphere feels light and happy, which is a nice change for once.

"Yes, he's back," Sarah confirms once more.

"You guys are talking way too loud about this. What if someone overhears?" I panic. I have been on edge ever since it was confirmed that my dad is back.

"Well, the second I see him, I'm turning him in, I swear," Kie says, lowering her voice and shaking her head.

"Yeah...I would've felt a little bad doing that right after he basically handed us money and a place to stay," I remind her.

"I don't know how either of you do it. I mean, every time I wanna complain about my dad, I just think about yours."

"Oh, glad to be of service," Sarah jokes lightheartedly.
