"DO YOU THINK she's heard it?" robin asked steve as they sat in robin's hotel room. it had been three days since her texas concert, and she only had a few days before she left.
"i'm sure she has," steve replied, stretching out on the bed next to her. "it's all over"
"i was just hoping she'd reach out," robin sighed, flopping down on the bed, "i don't understand what that other girl has that i don't"
"a deeper connection with nancy"
"steve!" robin scolded, hitting his shoulder.
"what? do you want me to lie to you?" he asked, throwing his hands up in surrender. "i love you, rob, and i'm not trying to be a dick, but you two had just met. realistically, she's going to pick someone she's known for longer and has history with. i wish she would've chose you- i really do- but you can't blame her"
"i know," robin admitted, her heart sinking. she did know he was right, but she hated having to believe it.
-
three months later, robin was on tour once again. she took a short break between her north america shows and the shows she was doing now. she was going to many places across europe and the uk.
she had just finished her show in amsterdam two days ago, and her next show was in paris. she had been having a great time on tour, but she still hadn't been able to fill the nancy-shaped hole in her heart.
nancy, on the other hand, had been with izzy for the past three months. she hadn't really seen or talked to summer since then- they were in the apartment at different times, and nancy had only been once. she had texted summer once after she first got to izzy's, but it only said 'i'm sorry'. after that, silence.
the past few months haven't been easy for nancy in the slightest. her mental health had taken a sharp decline, reaching an all-time low.
without having anyone else besides izzy in her life, she felt empty. she never left izzy's besides for school, which had ended a week ago. she had nobody to talk to or to support her.
plus, izzy had gotten worse too. she went through nancy's phone almost every day, and didn't let her leave her apartment much. if nancy wanted to go anywhere, izzy would be right behind as if she was nancy's shadow.
izzy had become a lot more angry as well. her temper had shortened even more, and the ways she expresses her anger makes nancy's skin crawl whenever she thinks about it.
but it's hard to not think about when she looks in the mirror and sees the bruises. on her wrists, from where izzy would pin her arms down so she couldn't fight back. on her neck, caused by izzy's tight grip as she pinned her against the door, threats laced with venom slipping from her lips. on her hips, where izzy had grabbed them too tightly as nancy struggled beneath her.
nancy had resorted back to her old habits of smoking weed, due to izzy in multiple ways. the first way being that izzy always smokes, and nancy had to do it with her. the second way was that nancy found it easier to handle izzy while high.
she spent every day for almost the entire three months numb to everything, unable to comprehend the world moving around her. she knew she was frying her brain- the brain she once valued more than anything else- but she couldn't find it in her to care. she'd rather do that than have to tolerate her emotions.
nancy was awake before izzy one morning, and she decided to go back to her apartment for a bit. she decided to sneak out instead of waking her up, worried that izzy might not let her go at all. hopefully, she'd be back before izzy woke up, otherwise she'd rather be punished later.
when she arrived at the apartment, she searched for summer's car in the parking lot. she didn't want to go inside if summer was there, mainly due to the fact that she was worried what summer would say.
when she didn't see her car, nancy parked her own and went into the apartment.
a familiar scent hit her as she walked inside the door- the smell of home. she never realized until now that her place had its own smell, but she could recognize it as soon as she walked inside.
this realization brought tears to her eyes as she realized how much she missed her home. she didn't ever think about it before, but now that she was here, she didn't want to leave.
she had been so caught up in her thoughts that she didn't hear summer's bedroom door creak open, revealing summer on the other side. she watched nancy with curiosity as tears fell down nancy's face.
"didn't expect to see you here," summer spoke, making nancy's head snap up. her eyes widened, and she quickly wiped the tears from her face.
"i'm sorry...i didn't see your car so i thought you weren't here"
"i had to park far away, the neighbors had a party last night and they took all the spots," summer replied. she squinted, examining nancy more as her eyes landed on nancy's neck. "what's that?"
nancy didn't reply, she was frozen in place. summer stepped closer, viewing nancy in the sunlight.
"did izzy do that to you?" she questioned, visibly upset. her fists balled up at her sides as she stared at nancy with concern.
nancy nodded, breaking down into sobs as she did so. summer didn't hesitate to pull nancy into a tight hug, while still being gentle at the same time. she held nancy as she cried, rubbing her back and head.
"it's okay," she whispered soothingly, stroking nancy's hair, "i'm going to get you out of this, okay? i promise"
nancy nodded, summer's presence immediately elevating her mood.
