THE GIRLS GOT OUT OF THE pool after their conversation with the boys, both their moods spoiled. Before Rory could open the door to head in, Belly grabbed her hand and stopped her.

"Uh, hey?"

"Hey." Belly started before she crossed her arms in front of her and looked up at Rory with the best puppy dog face she could muster.

"Can we please go to the bonfire?"

Rory laughed softly, before ruffling the girl's hair, shaking her head, and moving back towards the door.

"Oh come on Rory! It's not fair they always leave me! They even left you!"

Rory turned to Belly with a sigh and Belly's shoulder fell. She knew it was a long shot asking the girl, but at least she tried.

"We're going to have to watch at least half the movie before we can pretend to be sleepy and head upstairs."

Belly looked up, her excitement visible as she jumped to hug the girl, "Thank you thank you thank you!"

"But but but." Rory said, pulling away from her, "We have to be smart about this. Right now we're going to go inside, we'll act a little tired not too tired and I'll suggest we start the movie a little early."

Belly nodded, her excitement mirroring that of a little girl about to go on a roller coaster for the first time.

"Twenty-ish minutes in we'll pretend to doze off. I'll say we should finish the movie tomorrow and then we'll go upstairs. But, when we go upstairs to dry up now, try to find something to wear and have it ready to go."

"Rory?"

"Yes."

"You're amazing."

Rory laughed again, feeling a little less horrible about her interaction with Conrad. Belly always knew how to make her feel better. They headed inside and followed Rory's plan, and about thirty-ish minutes later the two girls were yawning and heading back up to their rooms.

Rory was look out as Belly grabbed her duffle bag and snuck into Rory's room, and once the door closed the two immediately started getting ready.

Rory looked through her closet until she found the dress she was planning to wear. She and her mother had gotten it during their annual pre-summer shopping trip.

It was a short baby blue dress, with a textured fabric on the upper part and a flowy bottom that ended right above her knees. She decided to wear shorts underneath it in case it got too windy at the beach.

The puffy sleeves and the rounded neckline made the dress perfect to pair with some of her favorite pieces of jewelry.

It was a little showy, so she did second guess it for a second before she remembered, that people wore things a lot worse to these bonfires.

She changed into the dress before she pulled up a chair to her vanity/dresser and started doing her hair.

They were still damp from her swim but had settled into soft curls, so using a curling iron to define a few pieces, she put her hair up into a high ponytail, leaving a few pieces to frame her face.

She grabbed her contacts next, watching Belly behind her in the mirror, still in her pajamas, trying to find something to wear.

Rory watched her give up and call her friend Taylor.
